Those researching in Mississippi.
  • Becky Jamison

My step-mother's father was from French Camp, Choctaw County, MS. I have a lot to learn about Mississippi, so I've joined this group.
  • Kathleen (Sutton) Diaz

I am glad we've pulled together some Mississippi researchers here. My dad's entire family comes from southern Mississippi from early 1800s and many are still in the area today. I visit several times a year and will be retiring there in March of 2010. Even though it may not be a broad spectrum, I am going to dig out some cemetery photos and load them up here. If there is anything in the Lincoln, Pike, Franklin or Copiah areas that someone needs photographed I can try to help.
  • Martha J. Berryman

Mississippi can be a tough place to do research in. I'm mostly dealing with border hoppers up on the Tennessee and Alabama borders. My main counties of interest are Alcorn, Tishomingo, Tippah, Prentiss, Itawamba, Monroe, and Lee. Two books I have in my genealogy library are the cemetery books for Alcorn and Tishomingo counties. If anyone ever needs a lookup in those counties, drop me a line. :)

For those of you who currently live in the MS area.. are there any groups/societies that meet on any kind of a regular basis? It has been hard to find Mississippi genealogy groups. Years ago I went to a one day seminar in Pasagoula and I can't recall who even sponsored that one. I am moving to Brookhaven next year.

  • Aleta Alene Carroll Krauss

Hi... I'm researching by Bouchillon / Ming / Carroll family lines. Generally settled in Oktibehha and Winston Counties. I have some materials from my visit there two years ago. I'm interested in any connectios to these lines or the localities. I also have listed a relative from Pickens County. There wasn't any other information and this is my brick wall relative so I have little information to include/exclude data. I think the issue centers around the granting of statehoods between GA, AL and MS. Each of them seem to have a Pickens County and I'm wondering if it is possible that it is all one location. I'm not sure how to proceed and would appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance. :)

    Hi everyone,
I have been looking for info on my fathers side of the family for some time now, his name is General Bryant he was born in ARK. but his mother was born in Mississippi and so was her father and mother, his mothers name was Edrean Lomax, b. about 1896. d. in Arkanasas in 1941, her fathers name was Lenn Lowmax, b. 1864 in MS. he and his wife are in the 1900 census for Arkansas, Monroe Co.. Brinkley, but I can't find anything before that, his wife is name Filamensia, I don't know what her last name is, b. about 1871, other children names are from the 1900 census are Josh, Adelar and Arel D. I am trying to find living relatives along with trying to find out about my family, I am 43 years old and never have met anyone of my fathers side because he was black and my mom was white and because of that they both never went home to see any of there family because they knew that they could'nt, we have missed out on alot, both of my parents are deceased now and I never thought about doing genealogy until a few years ago, I did find some on my mothers side and I would like to on my fathers. Any help would be greatly welcome, I just don't know where else to look.

    Willette

If you have Mississippi connections in Attala, Carroll, Holmes, or Madison Counties, you may want to visit my blogs, Mississippi Memories and Cemeteries of Dancing Rabbit Creek. Also, I am searching for information on the families of John P. Gibson, b. circa 1799 in SC and Richard N. Garrard, b. circa 1832 in Hall Co., GA. Gibson married Margaret J. Williams in Monroe Co., MS on January 3, 1843. Richard N. Garrard married Annie Lyles on May 3, 1850 in Hall Co., GA, and settled in Holmes Co., MS sometime before 1860. Gibson couple are my paternal gr-gr-gr-grandparents, and Garrard couple are maternal gr-gr-grandparents. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm doing research around Kemper and Neshoba on the following surnames:

Luke, Hodge, Partridge, Fulton and Conn.

Really hit a brick wall with Margaret Jane Partridge (b 1870) - well, with her parents, cannot find the Mother's maiden name. There are family rumors that she was Native American and I'd really love to be able to either deny or confirm that. I'm sure that it is probably not true, but some of my family members are dead set that it is!

Her parents were: John W. Partridge b 1856 in Mississippi and Harriet b 1853 in Mississippi. If anyone has any information on Harriet in particular, I'd love to hear from you!
