Okay so I'm going to ask yet another impossible question .. how about "The Heilman Family Genealogy"? I've checked all the used book places and - again - I came up empty handed .. ugh .. why must these people only print a limited number of copies? I'm actually surprised the historical societies don't a) have digital copies just in case or b) have extra copies, either hard or digital, to sell. I don't mind going to the historical society but it's really quite difficult. DP works all the time and we only have the one car .. plus with a baby .. it's just not the easiest of things to do so it would be really nice to have my own copy so I can work at my own pace .. in the comfort of my own bed lol
Caro, I have a site that you and others may find interesting. It is
http://www.oaister.org. It will find digitized copies of books, genealogies
as long as they are no longer copyrighted. A good many of these can be
copied. It takes a little used to doing but well worth it.
From the initial web page you can go to the search function and that will
lead you to a search screen where you can input your search. I did
"Heilman family" and it gave me the same book under 2 finds. Within each
find there is a URL that you can click on. There is an index to the left and the
last thing you see is "Printing Version", if you click on this you should be
able to download it. Good luck!
Keith
Thanks again! I did check that out and printed stuff from it. I just wanted to see if this book - or whatever it is - had any more information in it.
Thanks again you two! I really appreciate it! I'll be checking everything out now that my internet is working again
Caro wrote "Nothing there either Lynette .. Thanks for idea, though! I'd love to contact the authors but I'm not sure how to do that either"
If you know the publisher you can either write to them directly to see if they have any unsold copies in storage, or have them forward your comments on to the authors (if they are still alive).
Publishers should have current contact information for their authors, or at least a place to start.
I'm looking for some help with my Stohner name. I have them in Philly on the 1900 census. Fathers name is Henry born July 1850. Wifes name is Caroline (don't know her maiden name) born March 1867.3 children....Josephine born Sept. 1883,Louisa Dec. 1889 and Raymond (he's in my line) April 1897. I am looking to find out why Raymond ended up in the Girard College in Philly on the 1910 census. I do know the Girard College was for boys who was an orphan. But his mother was still alive at that time.It might be possible she couldn't take care of him.
His father Henry was a fireman so he may have died in the line of duty....don't know.
If anyone has any ideas or can help let me know.
Hi-
I found a death notice for a Henry Stohner, on Nov 19, 1903, he was in his 55th year, buried at Mt Vernon Cemetery. His wife was Caroline Miller. His address was 1711 N. Mascher St.
I also found a death notice for a Louisa Merk 4-28-1922, (age 32) who was the daughter of Caroline Kezmer and the late Henry Stohner. She was married to Frederick G. Merk. Her address was 204 Elm St, Camden, NJ. She was buried at New Camden Cemetery, NJ So, I'm guessing Caroline remarried?
HI Bob-
I looked at the death notice for Louisa, it seems Caroline's last name was either Rezmer or Bezmer, I'm leaning more towards Bezmer at this point. I'm guessing Raymond was at Girard in 1910 because she had remarried and her new husband didn't want kids? or she hadn't remarried yet? I'd try to find her on the census in 1910 and see what's up. :)
Hi Folks, my great great great grandfather was born in PA. They were there in the late 1700's. T'he church in which he was baptised in is still standing. There are two churches that are affiliated. St.Joseph/St.Mary's. His godparents were by the last name McDermott. My ancestors in PA go by the names of George Washington Abrams, Lemuel Abrams, John Abrams, Mary Olden, amongst other names that I can remember. I know they traveled often to Havana, Cuba, St.Thomas, and Puerto Rico.
Hi, folks. Sorry if I am cross-referencing, but I also post on the Smith page. My ancestors were from Northampton Co, Lower Mt.Bethel, Martin's Creek. And believe it or not, we have a Smith who married a Smith -not related! My cousin Jodee has researched back to Stephen Smith marrying Mary Anne Smith in 1859. Where we need more help is locating more on their parents. Stephen's parent were Edward K.Smith, born@1811 in Still Valley, NJ, and Mary Anne Reaser, born @1812, PA(?). Mary Anne Smith Smith's parents were Simon Smith, b@1813, and Caroline Frey, b.@1820- we think they were both born in Pennsylvania. Mary Anne Smith Smith and Stephen Smith, both born 1837, had 16 children. Lots of little Smiths! So , we have censuses, and pension records, and we are busy trying to fill in with info on all the children, too.
Hi, I am looking for Kelsey, Ralph, Over to start. My grandfather is Karl D Kelsey from Beaver County, he has been listed as from the towns of Ohio, Glasgow and Smith's Ferry. Ralph is his mother's maiden name and Over is a cousin's. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.
Steve Bonnell, I have one Bonnell in the family in Erie County, Married to a cousin of mine in Lundy's Lane by the name of Genevieve Martin. I do not have his first name. Does this connect with you perhaps?
I'm looking for information on the PA. turnpike in the 1830's. The southern route (I don't know if there was a northern route at that time period). My sister found an envelope that she had written on when talking to our grandmother. My grandmother said her grandfather's parents owned or operated the first Inn west of the Allegheny mountains and I'm trying to find resource information that may help me track it down.
President George Washington publicly favored the establishment of roads to promote the westward expansion of our nation. In 1791, the legislature of the Pennsylvanian Commonwealth approved a state-wide transportation plan and a year later created the Philadelphia and Lancaster Turnpike Company. The turnpike charter called for the construction of a 62-mile log-surfaced road, which provided successful transport for settlers and their goods over the muddy territories.
The Lancaster Turnpike route was later replaced by a canal after 1800 and then the beginnings of a railroad in the 1880s. The Allegheny Mountains posed a barrier to William Vanderbilt and Andrew Carnegie, who at the time were building a railroad from Harrisburg west to Pittsburgh to compete with a more northerly route provided by the booming Pennsylvania Railroad. Over one-half of the roadbed was constructed and seven tunnels partially excavated before Vanderbilt went broke in 1885.
My intersts are in Cumberland, York, Adams, Franklin, Perry and Dauphin Counties. My lines their include, Sheaffer,Steidler,Gibboney,Edenbaugh,Staire,Maxwell,Warren,Morrow,
I'm interested in Luzerne county, mainly. The main lines I'm researching are Cragle and Sorber. They came to PA in late 1700s. I'd like to find out where they were located prior to moving to PA. Possibly Connecticut? Although I haven't been able to find any in that location. I am also looking for Gearhart, Phillips, and Curtis.
Like Velma, I'm also interested mostly in Luzerne County, specifically around Hazleton. My Farrell (Irish) ancestors settled there sometime between 1840 and 1875, and my Weber (German) ancestors sometime between 1870 and 1890. Both families seem to have settled there shortly after immigrating to the U.S.
Trying to make a connection between William Ivey and Edward Ivey in Easton in mid 1800s. I suspect they were brothers back in Cornwall, England but cannot prove it - ideas??
Michael "Bear" (1762-1818) b. Frederick Co., MD. (?), m. Eliz. Witmer, r. Bedford/Fulton Co., d. Bedford Co.--family history. Family moved to Ohio > 1820. Son Jacob (1803-1853) m. Mary "Polly" Whisler (1803-1897) dau. Andrew/Catherine HE___. Where would Michael be buried and what is Catherine's maiden name ? ?
Surnames: Tortellotte, Whitmyer, Spies, Haaland. I am interested in identifying descendents of the Tortellotte branch in Erie, PA; any immigration information on Casper Whitmyer, who might have arrived in Port of Baltimore, than moved to Phila.; any information & descendents of the Haalands/Heilands out of Philadelphia, all during the 1800's. I have census records only.
Researching the following names in Luzerne Co.: William Robertson b. 1822 Midlothian Scotland, married Barbara Laird b. 1825 Lanark Scotland. They came to U.S. around 1854. Lived in Hazelton for 1 year and the rest of time in Luzerne Co. I have their family and their son William on several censuses and land records. Also Laird's and Simpson's in Luzerne Co.
I am also researching Peter Snyder and Rose Anderson families. They lived in Wyoming Co. & Luzerne Co. Peter was b. 1854-1858 Rose Anderson b. 1860 died 1895.
Researching Trullender/Trolinger/Drollinger. Specifically my great grandfather was Hiram Samuel Trullender born in Philadelphia, PA in 1804. His obituary says his parents died when he was a few months old and that he was raised by an Aunt and Uncle. Unfortunately it doesn't give the parent's names or aunt/uncle's names. We have hit a brick wall in our research. He does not appear in any census until 1840 in Union Co. Indiana. We have reason to believe that he was raised in NJ because sometimes in the census he gives his birthplace as PA and sometimes NJ.
I am researching the Jonas Barndt family. I do not know much information about them, other than the 1860 (and subsequent years) census from Wisconsin, lists birthplace as Pennsylvania.
I am also searching for information on the Jesse Lake family from the Derry, Northumberland/Norwegian, Schuylkill areas.
Any help on either family would be greatly appreciated.
Researching Ulmer family, Mood family and Tettemer family.
Jonas Ulmer b. abt 1832 in Bucks Co. married Mary Jane Mood b. 1834 d. sometime between 1870 but before 1880. They lived in a town called Erwinna. Her parents were Samuel b. 1805 d.22 Sep 1881 & Susanna Tettemer Mood b. abt 1820. Have several censuses on them but don't have much else.
Searching for several ellusive ancestors in southeast PA: James Reynolds (1863-?) and wife Elizabeth Richter (1866-1909), Magels (probably grmo of Elizabeth Richter) who were oystermen on either Delaware Bay or Chesapeake Bay, and Foley, who may have been mother of James Reynolds. Any help or info about any of these folks would be greatly appreciated...this is a 30 year old search!

My family names I'm searching are Wolford, Arnold, Wile, Keltz. A good amount of the Wolfords came from Westmoreland County, originally Germany. I was born in Bradford, with many relatives still living in the area. Anyone with any help, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks
I just wanted to let you know that I am here and I'm not ignoring the group. Due to some personal matters, I've been offline and will probably remain so for a little while long, but I am here. I found an internet cafe where I can at least get online for a few hours every so often.
I am looking mainly for Westmoreland County, but also have a bunch of people in McKean County. I'm looking for Wolford, Keltz, Arnold, Wile. Anyone that may have the same names, let's see if we're related! .
Am working on descendents of Huntingdon County. the Colegates and the Welsh's. Early 1800. Have census for 1810 for Asaph Colegate and family need to tie in Nancy Welsh wife of William Welsh as daughter of Colgate
My Penn folks were Ann Worley m Calub Pusley of Chester, Penn ,her twins Henry and Francis, mine line HenryWorley...anyone know anything about these people?
I've got a huge number of PA families, mostly on the east side of the state.
Susquehanna -- DANIELS, OWENS
Luzerne -- (Hazleton) DINKLOCKER, SCHADE, WILLIAMS, MALKAMES, DIEHL
Philadelphia -- ASHTON, WRIGHT, MAYBERRY, KREWSON, TILLYER, HARTLEY, COMLY, VAN ARTSDALEN, COTTMAN
Would love to find new cousins and compare notes!
Hi, just wanted to let you know that I have several genealogies that I would be willing to do look-ups in. Jacob Hochstedler, Barbara Hochstedler, Hertzler-Hartzler, The Brennemans, John J. Darr, Christian Gnaegi/Gnagey, Peachey-Beachey. Also have the 3 volume set of German Pioneers - ships lists to Philadelphia for 1727 to 1805. I hope this might be helpful. Tom K.
If anyone is looking for information about the Clewell family who landed in America on 5 October, 1737 and settled just north of Nazareth, Northampton County, PA, I have tons of information. Other associated spellings: CLAVELL, CLAWELL, CLAYWELL, CLAVELT, KLEWELL.
The Clewell family was a prominent Moravian family in Bethlehem, PA I stayed in Clewell Hall at Moravian College and my math teacher was Prof. Clewell. The Central Moravian Church probably has records.
