    Hello Marianne - I am in Australia and I have a friend by the name of Michael Szabo. He is from Hungary - Debretzen - if that's is the correct spelling. His father was shot while waiting in a line-up for some bread when Michael was two years old - his mother's name was Juliana David. There were three other siblings and then his mother took an orphan under her wing and raised her along with the family. Michael escaped with his life while the communist regime were shooting at him and others as they swam the river to escape to Austria and eventually came to Australia (mistaking it for Austria) in about 1956. On his behalf - where do I start trying to look? I think the family was Presbyterian and his mother passed away in 1975, having never seen her son again. I would appreciate any tips you might have and I also question if there could be a connection between yourself and his family, I believe Szabo is quite a common name in Hungary.
