Have been researching this line on and off for a few years and have a working theory on the where, how and why's. Believe the Essex Co may be Essex MA and not VT. Also believe the Chas/Squire confusion an error in memory. Rutland census shows Chas and two possible brothers of which neither are Squire; Chas is likely father and son with possibility of a brother as well. Have seen other situations where children, grandchildren or other relatives who file death registrations confuse parents and grandparents - this could be the case vis a vis Chas - or a middle name as you indicate. Brandon appears correct. Migration patterns suggest possible connection with neighboring Wood and Taylor families.
