The only connection that I have that my William Haines married a Nancy Hatfield comes from a book "History of Hardin Co. OH". It says William Haines was one of the first settlers of the county and that he had married a Nancy Hatfield in Logan Co. OH. In the 1850 census I find them in Hardin Co. but the wife is a Mary, their children are Matilda 20 b. 1830, Jane 20 b. 1830 Jackson 23 b. 1827, and Thomas (my grgr grandfather) 16 b. 1834. Suposedly they had another daughter Sarah b. ca. 1816 who first married a William Cooper then a John Painter. If these birth dates are correct for William and Mary then Sarah can't be their daughter and William was not in the war of 1812..

In the 1860 census I find them in Hardin Co. OH, William b. 1786 NJ, wife Nancy 69 b. VA and Jane 40 b. 1840. Big differences in birth dates and ages. Then right below them is my gr gr grandfather Thomas Haines 31 b. 1829 with his wife Malinda and son Samuel (my gr grandfather). Also William son Jackson 38 b. 1822 and his family. Notice the big birth and age differences for all of them between the 1850 and 1860 census'. So frustrating and so confusing. Do you have any thoughts of suggestions? Thanks for responding, you are the first person that has contacted me about this family line.

I too think that the William Haines you mention in the War of 1812 is my William. I have not requested any military records for him. Thanks for the info about the Bounty Land Warrants. I will look into ordering that. I have looked through the Hardin Co. Cemetery and death records and as of yet not found anything for William Haines or Nancy or Mary. I really need to take a trip to Hardin Co. OH, Im not that far away. I have searched for a marriage record for William Haines and Nancy Hatfield in OH and NJ and have not found anything. And your right about there being so many Haines families it is hard to figure out who is who. Thanks for all your suggestions, it helps a lot.
