I am trying to find out the maiden name or the last name Irene had when she married my grandfather. They probably got married in Tx and I know from the census taken in 1920 that she lived in Mineral Wells, Tx. Also she was born either in 1892 or3. She was Robert Carters second wife. Thanks Gerry

Do you have a death record, or know when she died? Did she marry again after she married Robert Carter?
No, I do not have a thing, just know he married her and the children of Robert always called her a socialite. I never thought of this, but maybe I could check marriage records. Would that work, I am new to this but over the years have gathered bits of pieces so I could one day do a search. Thanks for the reply. Gerry
You could check marriage records, or if you find out when Irene died, it may list her father's name. Did Robert marry again after Irene?
Robert did not remarry and I don't know if Irene did or not. But I will check marriage records. Thanks. Gerry
Hi Gerry, I was wondering if anyone has answered this for you? I was wondering if you could tell me if Robert or herself were born in Tx? Have you tried Ancestry?
I am not sure where they were born, my guess is Robert was born in Ok and Irene Tx. I am so lucky because my husband and I are going back to the little town called Maysville Ok where my dad was born. I am meeting some cousins, their grandmother and my grandfather were brother and sister. That is why I think Robt. was born in Ok. I have not tried Ancestry, do you think I can get their marriage license ? I am new at this and it was dumb luck to find cousins in Ok and Tx. Thanks for your reply. Gerry
According to the 1920 census, Robert was born in Texas and Irene in California. That is if I have the right family. The children were Luther, Maud, Earnest, George, Ruby and Helen.
Ok, according to the 1910 census, the daughters name was Nora, not Maud. Robert was married to an Emma about 1905 and they were living in Maysville, Oklahoma in 1910.
I found a WWI draft registration card for a Robert Alvin Carter born May 29, 1883. It doesn't give a place of birth just that he was a natural born citizen.

He was living in Mayville, Garvin County, Oklahoma.

His nearest living relative was Bill Carter. There was a Bill Carter living in the same house with him in 1920. Bill was 19 years older than him so perhaps his father?

The draft card is from Sept. 12, 1918. So he must have married Irene sometime between 1918 and 1920 in either Oklahoma or Texas.
Thanks so much for the info. His first wife Emma died about 1915, There were six children, Luther, Earnest,George, Nora, Ruby and the baby Helen. This has been helpful. I am looking forward to my trip to Ok and Tex. This gen. is addictive. Gerry
Oh, how did you find the draft card and census? Thanks, Gerry
