Geography in History

I get many questions about the location of various places in the UK and find many researchers make small mistakes because we are smaller than other parts of the world. 

For example what is the distance between 3 states in the USA/Canada/Australia could take me half way across Europe.

The same works the other way too and sometimes I think places in USA/Canada/Australia are closer than they are. So may be this is a good place to ask a quick question to help our research ?
