FamilySearch and I are old buddies, thanks to a friend who happens to be Mormon and got me connected years ago.  They have been invaluable.  I'm also on Ancestry, and use multiple other sources.  Nonetheless, thanks for the suggestion.  It never pays to assume people know about what's around.

Hello, my name is Robert LaBonte 66 years old. My grandparents were Jules Marcheterre married Demerise Gagnon. We of the Dandurand dit Marcheterre line. My mother is Germaine Marcheterre married Ernest LaBonte, and I am looking for my ancestors, so that we can match intelligence and fill in empty spaces, I am from Eugene Oregon, United States, I moved here from Salem, Massachusetts.

Those sound like French Canadian families to me.  I had a look at Ancestry censuses.  Jules and Demerise are in Salen in 1930 and 1920.  In 1910 and 1900 they are in Cyr Plantation, Aroostook, Maine.  More to the point in 1900 they are living with Jules' parents Prospere and Locadie, with two children of their own, Laura and Mary.  In 1891 Jules is living with his parents in St. Basile, Victoria, New Brunswick.  You can follow Prospere and Lacedie back through several censuses.

Thank you Judith, I have Jules up to Jean Dandurand:b 1637 in France. My father ( LaBonte ) I have his ancestor Herbert 1 de Beauvilliers of France in the year 1035  [ 31 generations ] .

I live in Florida. I started out knowing nothing of where I came from and what I was told when I was younger turns out not to be true. I am so excited about learning about my ancestors. At the moment I am looking up for different blood lines and I have found a little on all of them except for one. The most interesting but the hardest so far is when I hit a wall after finding out my ancestors came from Germany and that is where I am now. Some of the surnames I am looking for is Rans, Keller-Oglesby, Lively, and Shick/ schick/ scheich/ schako..

Hi.  I'm a native "Florida Cracker" living in the FL panhandle.  My maternal grandmother got me started on genealogy by showing me the penciled family trees she had created.  I'm three quarters Southerner (AL, FL, GA, NC, SC) and 1/4 Yankee (NY), with a few drops of Muscogee Creek Indian.

 

Right now, I'm working on building my Revolutionary War connection.  All 3 of my ARW ancestors are on the Yankee side of my family and doing New York state research from the Deep South is dang near impossible.  :-P  Oh, well.  I'll persevere as best I can.

Hello, I have been researching my family history since I was 17 years old and have been assisting other researchers for over 15 years.  My family research consist of Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Iowa, and Kansas.  I conduct cemetery restoration in Indiana and offer numerous cemetery based PowerPoint presentations along with other genealogical content.  For five years, I was editor of our quarterly family newsletter.  I work part-time as a Librarian Assistant and part-time as an Administrative Assistant.  I had completed ProGen3 and only have a few more courses to complete at the National Institute for Genealogist Studies.

Hi, Tami.  Does the National Institute for Genealogical Studies "certify" genealogists?  How does one pursue certification in genealogy?  I have 2 Masters in Library Science but would be interested in adding a certificate to my list of educational accomplishments.

No, the National Institute does not certify genealogists.  However, they do issue certificates upon completion of a program. You can see what classes are available from the website at www.genealogicastudies.com.
