Hello, Everyone
My name is Michelle Raybourn, fairly new to GenealogyWise. I was referred here by my newly found cousin Melinda! Thank you, Ms. Melinda!
I'm looking for descendants of Claron de Marcham (Markham), the first recording of the man that adopted the last name "Marcham" around 1066.
I have been estranged from my biological family since I was about 12 years old. I'm basically a 46 year old orphan on a quest to learn more about my maternal side. I've been addicted to history all my life but have never really attempted to learn more about my own history, until this year.
Now I can't stop! I know you all know exactly what I mean.
In my mission I have learned some interesting things and have come across some very confusing facts or should I say "guesses." The tree I was building became quite cluttered and I can't stand clutter around me and especially in my mind. So I am starting from the top (Claron) and working my way to me.
I have developed a blog focusing solely on this:
http://clarondemarcham.wordpress.com/
I would love others that may be related to join me on this quest. With respect to the Millers, the connection would be Polly Sacket Lobdell (1782-1842) who married my 4th Great Grandfather John Miller (Abt 1778-1864). Polly's parents were Asa Barnes (1760-1824) and Mary Polly Day (1768-1825). Asa's parents were Captain Phineas Barnes (1730-1795) and Phebe Bement (1734-1815). Here's the Markham connection. Phebe's parents were William Bement (1708-1798) and Phebe Markham (1713-1798). Phebe Markham is my 7th Great Grandmother.
So if you feel you might be related and you'd like to learn more about our forefathers, starting with Claron de Marcham (1040-1086 - although I'm trying to confirm this) please come join me.
Cheers!
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
Welcome to GenealogyWise! I've been a lurker here for a while, but the title of your post caught my eye. I had an aunt (by marriage) whose name was Hilda Markham Gee. She was born 21 Oct 1904 in England, and died 8 Feb 1977 in Brockville, Ontario. She married Richard A. V. Bradfield, who was a locomotive engineer for the Canadian National Railway. I have not done much research on Hilda, although I do know that her parents were Harry Gee and Laura Hubbard. Most of this information came from her obituary in the Brockville Recorder & Times newspaper (9 Feb 1977, p. 3).
Regarding your own research, this sounds like an exciting project. Going all the way back to 1040 is very ambitious. If I had any advice to give, it would be to document all of your sources thoroughly, and double check all of the facts. Not only will this help other researchers, it will give you a confidence boost when you hit those inevitable brick walls!
Good luck!
Cheers,
Chris

Hi, Chris and thanks for the welcome.
That is excellent advice you provided about documenting all my resources. Thank you! A few nights ago I woke late and got on my iPad to start doing just that. :-) I would love for you to join the blog. I created a group here in GenealogyWise: http://www.genealogywise.com/group/clarondemarchammarkham
This might take years, it might take months. I don't know. I do know I'm going to enjoy the process. :-) Perhaps your Aunt Hilda will show up in this line? ;-)
Cheers!
Michelle
