Do you know what area of NC?  I've not asked my brother to do the DNA test yet.  My brick wall is with  Shadrack (rich) Jones (1783-1851), who migrated from NC to TN. There are others of the same name in various locations of NC during the early 1800's.

He claimed "Marlboro(ugh)"...and he was very specific about NORTH Carolina.  Unfortunately there are several possible locations that may have been Marlboro during his lifetime.  I lean toward east coast in the New Hanover now Pender area, but there is a Marlboro area near Raleigh and another in Pitt co.

FTDNA has special prices on til Dec 31st.  May I strongly encourage at least the 12 marker kit?  That provides no conclusive info, but does render good clues.  It also gets into storage the DNA so the markers can later be expanded, if needed/wanted/required.  My Dad provided the last likely available sample before his death.  Tho he only did the 12 markers, I was just able to expand to 37...and find my contacts.

Thanks, Jackie.  Based on migration routes and naming patterns, we seem to be deadlocked between Cumberland and Jones counties.  I will definitely be considering the DNA testing.

I didnt realize that Cumberland was adjacent to Bladen.  We now have 3 positive matches, and another testing.  Let's explore possibilities.

FTDNA has extended their special pricing through 7 JAN 2012 - so for those that are wondering, now is a good time to jump into the DNA genealogy pool!  I have been tested elsewhere, but want my fathers danish paternal lineage documented and am going to be asking a son of my mothers brother to consider it so we don't lose that norwegian lineage.  And you are correct, the storage ability for 25 years is a nice one, considering DNA is still evolving regarding this whole field.

R1b1b2a1a2 this is my brothers DNA. I was told our Jones family may have been in Cumberland County, North Carolina around 1750. I have not been able to verify this. I am looking for the father of Evan Jones born 1793.

Ours is I1...which does not seem to be far off from R1b1, but enough to eliminate a close connection.  Hopefully we will soon be able to id several families in our line so you can at least eliminate those.  Levi, Nathan(iel), Moses, Reuben...Old Testament Quaker names...were common for us during the 1700 - 1800s....
