Susannah Allen's (1642, VA) ancestry

According to an article in Columbia Magazine by Greg Burton, Susannah Allen, who is my great (x10)-grandmother, is believed to be the granddaughter of Capt. Christopher Newport, who brought early settlers to Jamestown.
I have not been able to confirm this, and wonder if illegitimacy is involved.
