Hi,

My name is Sean Heuvel and I am trying to obtain more information on my direct ancestor Joseph Bennett of Rhode Island. Some sources suggest he was a Private in the Rhode Island State Line, but he does not appear in DAR records - he may be an unproven patriot. Here is some information about him:

Birth: 1758 Rhode Island
Death: 1839 Massachusetts
War Time Residence: Rhode Island
Spouse First Name: Jemima Fairbanks
Comments:
He was a soldier in the RI line in the Revolution. W8359, BLW#26044-160-55. Joseph Bennett (1758-1838) received a pension for service as a private in the Rhode Island troops under Colonels Waterman, Low, Brown and Crary. He was born in Scituate, R. I.; died in Belchertown, Mass.

Any information would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Private Joseph Bennett is a proven DAR patriot ancestor. Born 1758 in Scituate, Providence County, Rhode Island and died 19 December 1838 in Belchertown, Hampshire County, Massachusetts. Pension S*W8359.

However spouse name is Esther Green. There are 2 proven lineages - 1 through daughter Abilene who married Charles Underwood and another through daughter Elizabeth who married Eli Curtis.

Does this help?

Hi Sheri,

Thanks for providing this information - it is very helpful. I am a direct descendant of Eli Curtis - however, my sources suggest that Bennett was married to Jemima Fairbanks. Perhaps he was married more than once? I'll have to double check my records. Thanks again!

Hi Sean,
I have a question for you, if you please. I have been searching for the parents of my ggggGrandfather Ezra F Bennett who was born abt 1775 in Rhode Island and moved to Onondage Co., New York in 1815. He got married to Mrs Eza (--?--). Sometime after 1820 Ezra was "lost at sea" and his wife remarried to a JC Stranton and moved the family to Canada. I descent through Ezra's son Benoni - Benona Madison Bennett. He was born on 21 April 1812 Rhode Island. He married Sarah Allen. Benoni died between 1845 and 1854 in Linn Co., Iowa.
Do you have any information on who was Ezra's parents?
Thank you so much.
Patty
Hi Patty,

Sorry for the delay in responding to you and thanks for your note. Many of the names you mentioned sound familiar to me so I will double-check my records to see if your line of Bennetts is connected with mine. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again,

Sean
