Greetings! I am a Hinkle descendent through the Kentucky/Arkansas branch. Jane, you and I are definitely related and we have hit the same stone wall. My connection to Dr. Anthony Hinkle (b. 12Aug1810 in KY) is as follows:
my dad -- Ronald P. Garrett
his dad -- Homer Harding Garrett (b. 18Dec1920)
his mother -- Sarah Ellen Hinkle (b. 9May1883)
her father -- William Reuben Hinkle (b. Sep1835)
his father -- Anthony Hinkle (b. 12Aug1810)
I don't know a whole lot about my Hinkle ancestors as my grandparents were divorced long before I was born and my dad lost touch with most of his Arkansas relatives. I thoroughly believe that my Anthony Hinkle is descended from Rev. Anthony Hinkle of Germantown, PA. I have a gazillion other ancestors of Germanic descent and not one of them is named Anthony -- it's a highly unusual name for Germanic families, but is one that occurs over and over again in Hinkle families. Can't be just coincidental that my ancestor's name is Anthony. So I'm trying to find out more about Hinkles in Kentucky or Virginia and a tie in to the Pennsylvania Hinkles. If there are Hinkle sons who disappear into the frontier and were never heard from again that is probably a place to start looking.
Another odd thing is that I live within 6 miles of Hinkletown, PA as did my grandmother when she met Homer and married him. I wonder if he knew he was probably related to the PA Hinkles? I also had a boss who was a Hinkel from western PA. Small world apparently. :)

Jane, My direct line does not seem to have gone to Kentucky, but I see info. that others went to Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri, etc.

Just like the case with Pam (she, you, and I) are related about 9 generations back. Our relatives were all brothers (Pam's - George Rudolph Henckel - b. 1701; mine - John Justus Henckel - b. 1706; and yours - Jacob Anthony Henckel - b. 1708).

I see from my info that nine generations back our relatives were brothers: yours - George Rudloph Henckel (b. 1701) and mine - Johann (John) Justus Henckel (b. 1706). They were both sons of Anthony Jacob Henckel.

P.S. As stated before, my Hinkles were in Frederick Co.,MD. in the 1700's. George Hinkle,Sr. married Achsah Plummer in PA. if memory serves & moved to Frederick Co.,MD. They were my 5xgreat-grandparents. I descend through their daughter Elizabeth Hinkle who married William Drake,Sr. on 17 Oct.1780 in Frederick Co.,MD.
