I have been trying to get ahold of a mister Gary Powell because we are both trying to find Levi powells parents. They say he lived up a holler with a bunch of indians . Is this true? Maybe he is indian that is why no one can find his parents. His granddaughter Catherine powell Brackett was my greatgrand mother. I don't remember her but my sister does. She said she was real dark complected. I don't know if this would help but my dads name was Edward Burr Brackett. Somewhere I saw the name Edward Burr Powell. Might this be a connection?

Hi Gary. Thanks for answering. Do you have any pictures of your side? I don't care if they are black, green, or purple . LOL I just want to know something about them. I am the mother of two sets of twin girls and none of them could get dark except my oldest . She could get as brown as a biscut every summer. My mother was very dark but that was on the other side of the family. So on we go!
Hello Gary,

I think I read Levi left out his son William in the WILL for some strange reason. Also my father when growing up in the 30s and 40s always thought there were two Powell family's in little old Barbourville, Ky. He said they knew of each other but never really had any connection as family that they knew of.
My guess is Levi was married to wife no. 1 and had several kids and then was seeing Anne Laws the same time and both women were pregnant. I think I found two William Powell's and ours carrying the name Laws and later about 4 or 5 yrs of age Williams mother and father married ( Levi and Anne Laws). Levi may have left william out due to other family in his WILL, but that's just a guess. I have to prove it and I hope to very soon.
Gary, I am invite you to PACASA WEB ALBUM. I have enter several photos.
God Bless!

Hi,
Didn't William change his name back to Powell, because of the will and land?" Two Powell family's in the same neighborhood sounds confusing. Do you think Levi's first wife may have been Indian, the reason why there is no information written down about her or birth and death certificates? That is a good guess, because with our line of Powell's, drinking, and courting the ladies seems to be in the blood, in some of us anyway. I was wild myself back when I was young and drinking. But anyway, if I remember correctly, I was reading somewhere that William changed his name back to Powell, because of Levi's will, for the children also probably. I will do some more research on it also.

Gary
Hi Darlene,
Levi was my 3rd Great Grandfather. He was married twice. 1st Wife was Mary Linn and Second Wife was Anna Laws.
I do not know of a Catherine Powell being His Grand daughter. Levi was born in N.C. IN 1799. His parents were
Elijah Powell and Morning Wilson. She was Indian. The Powell's lived in an area called Moores creek, in Clay co., Ky, with other Indians in that area.
If I can be of further assistance please let me know.
GOD BLESS!
Rev. Dennis Powell
