My ancestor, John Robinson married Lydia Cole somewhere in Virginia; have yet to locate a record. She was the daughter of Joseph Cole and Freelove Mason, early settlers in Washington Co., VA originally in Swansea, Bristol Co., MA. John Robinson purchased land early Washington Co., VA Together he and Lydia had eight known children. They eventually lived in Carter Co., TN where he died in 1826. It appears that their land was in Johnson Co., TN after the later county was formed. Lydia died 1830-1836 most likely somewhere in either Carter Co., TN or Johnson Co., TN. I have worked for years to determine the parentage of John Robinson. There were Robinsons in Washington Co., VA who originated in Rockbridge Co., VA, but I have yet to find anything conclusive on my John Robinson.
Hi Victor, thanks for your hint. Do you mean the FTDNA project? We are in that one and our results are on YSearch. It has been very interesting - I just wish more people would test!
Welcome aboard! My cousin has done DNA testing on my Drake line. It got me back directly 2 more generations & ties to the Drake's in the 1600's NJ. I agree it's a great new genealogy tool.
Hello all; I'm researching the Robinson families from the area around Lacolle, Quebec, which is right at the border with New York and Vermont. These people seemed to move between these areas quite a lot. The legend is that 3 brothers from Yorkshire came to Canada C1815 and settled there - William, b.1793 Yorkshire (per his grave stone); Charles, b. C1797, and Peter, b.C1799. My ancestor, Peter, died in 1832. I would like to find any descendants of Peter's son Samuel, many of whom moved to Vermont, notably the Rutland area. On another note, have any of you done DNA testing? My brother tested and it has been very interesting to see the results - well worth doing, in my opinion.
