Thanks for the clarifications, Lucie & Marc. That is exactly correct.

Most of my family started - after expulsion from Nova Scotia or moving away from Quebec - in other states (North Carolina was a popular stop) before trickling down into Louisiana.

This includes my Beauvais (St. Jemme) line, which I found listed on a website about the boats that brought women to the male settlers in "New France". Check to see if your ancestors' surnames are listed here:

Lucy is correct.

This actually brings up another misconception, that of the deportation of Acadian to Louisiana. All of the Louisiana Acadian arrived there of their own accord. Some were lucky enough to migrate from deportation landing sites to Louisiana, but a most arrived after the French capitulation in North America and a large influx occurred in 1775 when several boat loads left France to return to North America and the then Spanish colony of Louisiana.

Hi Elaine,

Just an FYI: No Acadians were expulsed from Quebec as Quebec was never part of Acadia. Acadia consisted of what is today Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and part of the State of Maine. In fact, Acadians went to Quebec to escape from being deported. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely,

Lucie

My husband Georges Langlois is an Acadian from Port Daniel,Quebec.
Port Daniel is in the Gaspe Penninsula.
Years ago he travelled to New Orleans to soak up the Cajun culture.
He know about the 1755 expulsion of the acadians from what would become Quebec,Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Would love to hear from other folks from his ancestry.
