Eleanor "Nellie" Adamson - TWO of them
Tina, let's talk about this.
I believe that the Eleanor Adamson that married Joseph "Herrin" is a different lady entirely and he did not die young. I do think you are definitely on the right track. Simon Adamson [1763-1814] and his wife Eleanor Routh [1769- aft1860] and their family lived in Jefferson Co, TN. I believe their youngest daughter, born probably about 1813, just before the death of Simon, is the Eleanor, called Ellen-not Nellie, who married Joseph, whose name was actually Hearn, not Herrin. Now Simon only mentioned his "younger children" in his will, and so this Eleanor does not appear in all databases. She would have been about 16 when she married Joseph - works well. In 1860, Collins County, TX, the family of Joseph Hearn and Eleanor can be found AND her mother, Eleanor Adamson is living with her, she was age 91. So that effectively removes that Eleanor and her husband Joseph - she cannot be your Eleanor, your Nellie. Other siblings of this Eleanor are in Collins Co, TX as well.
Of course, John N. Adamson and Mary Hammer also had a daughter Eleanor [her birth recorded in the Quaker records in 1804] and they lived in Jefferson Co TN As far as I know these are the only two Eleanors in this time and place in this particular Adamson family. John & Mary Hammer Adamson's children scattered a bit, but certainly their son Seth, just younger than Eleanor went to Iowa.

Thank you for the above information. I am descended from Simon Jr. & Eleanor Adamson as well. I have some info (from my mother) that indicates Eleanor died in 1862 in Weston, Collin Co., TX. I actually live in this county and have found where some of her children are buried, but not her. So, she was the one who married Joseph Hearn and not the other Eleanor you mentioned? What info do you have on her and Simon? Do you know where she is buried?
As a child, my mother's older kinfolk would remark "it's said that Grandmother Eleanor used to say..." :)

I don't descend from Simon Jr. & Eleanor Routh, but from Simon's brother Jonathan [see the main page of the Adamson group]. Here is Eleanor, still alive in 1860 and living in Collin Co, TX with her daughter "Ellen" who was likely named Eleanor the same as her mother. The daughter obviously married Joseph Hearn. You may have read my comment and not Tina's original message on the Discussion page, Adamson Group home page. I find GenealogyWise somewhat confusing in how messages are handled. Tina was confusing still a third Eleanor with the Ellen Adamson Hearn in the following census. She has a Nellie Adamson who married John Tharp who is about the same age as Ellen, wife of Joseph Hearn. Nellie is sometimes a nickname for Eleanor. She was trying to say that Joseph Hearn had died and her Nellie remarried to Tharp in the 1840's - but this census proves Joseph Hearn was alive and well and still married to his Ellen in 1860.
Ellender Adamson, age 91 lived with Joseph & Ellen Hearn, her youngest daughter & son-in-law, in 1860. Precinct #9, Collin Co TX, p.106, Household 830. The household was quite large and contained 13 persons divided into three families:
Joseph Hearn, age 52, Farmer, b. North Carolina, and Ellen, age 47, b. TN And what appears to be their children: Levi age 23, Lida 16, Misoura 9, and Laura 6; Livi & Lida born in MO, the younger children b. Texas. Then the 2nd family: Larkin Hearn age 18, b. MO and what appears to be his wife Mary, age 19, b. Miss. Listed as the 3rd family in the household is Jacob Wilson, age 24, Farmer, b. TN - probably a nephew of Ellen Adamson Hearn & grandson of Eleanor Adamson, as two of the daughters had married Wilsons. Nancy Wilson, age 21 b. TN. John Wilson, age 28, a painter, born in NC. Also Harrison Mills age 19, b. TN, probably a farm hand. Last of all was listed Eleanor.
