African Ancestored Genealogy

Dedicated to all things African Ancestored!

I like the inclusiveness of the term; it includes North America, South America; in fact the entire globe!

Another way of expressing this is the African Diaspora

From Wikipedia:

African diaspora; One of the largest diasporas of pre-modern times was the African Diaspora, which began at the beginning of the 16th century. During the Atlantic Slave Trade, twenty million people from West, West-Central and South-east Africa were transported to the Western Hemisphere as slaves.

This population and their descendants were major influences on the culture of English, French, Portuguese and Spanish New World colonies. The Arab slave trade also transported Africans from the continent, although the effect of the Diaspora to the east is more subtle.

It is my hope that you will participate in the discussions, contribute information, and basically get in where you fit in!

George,
I just arrived home after flying to Washington DC, doing a presentation at George Washington Birthplace; taking a bus to Roanoke; and then another bus into Pennsylvania. I attended my Ruth Family Reunion (on my mother's side), and had to cancel another reunion. It was a spiritual journey for me, especially seeing a church founded by one of my ancestors in 1791. I was able to visit friends and family, and see more of the road then I care to mention (smile). Now it is time to put it all together and sort out the information I gathered.

Since my second book, Pieces of the Quilt has been out, I am being contacted by long lost relatives. I guess I will have to write another book with the history that is now being revealed.
I have a book signing at the Main Library Hayward California on August 29th. This is actually my first book signing in the Bay Area. If anyone is in the area please stop by, the event starts at 3:00 pm.

Hi All,

Whew! What a great summer!
I hope you all are having a great time also!

First was the Hancock Family Reunion, July, in Lubbock, Texas.
Now, we just got back from a cruise in the Bahamas that included a Family gathering of Geders and Robinsons.

Time now to organize all of this genealogical info!
(not to mention all of the photos;yikes!)

Peace,
"Guided by the Ancestors"

Hi Everyone,
It's Toni from Lowcountry Africana, we just found a remarkable Freedmen's labor contract for Colleton County, SC that breaks through the 1870 Brick Wall by positively connecting a freed person with a surname to the final slaveholder. In this case the document links Moses Gedos' wife Margret to former slaveholder D.R. Postell. It is posted to our blog:

Incredible.

I just returned from a three week visit to Virginia. One of the places I visited was Fairmount Baptist Church in Stapleton Virginia. It was founded by my ancestor Rawley Pinn in 1791. There are two locations, one in Madison Heights (Amherst County), and the other in Stapleton. My cousin and I sat on the grounds and had a picnic there. On the way up we passed houses of other descendants of Rawley Pinn, who continue to reside in the area. It is difficult to describe the feeling of standing where your ancestors stood.

I also went to George Washington Birthplace in Westmoreland County Virginia, and had a book reading. That too, was a moving experience. However, there is no place like home (smile).

Hi Mavis, I just got lazy and stopped for TOOOOO LONG....time is so precious.
I see you are in NC...I used to live there a long time ago. Fort Bragg was my home in the 60s - 70s I also lived in Fayetteville. How's the weather down that way?

Carole,

You sound like me. I took a small break of 10 years away from my research. This year, I'm finally getting back on track.

I need to get back on track with my research. I have been away from the forefathers for a long time. I am glad to be a part of this group.

The one area that has stumped me for YEARS is the whereabouts of the grave of my ggrandfather Anderson Bentley. I can find his wife Jane but not him. ...and the quest continues...
