African Ancestored Genealogy

Dedicated to all things African Ancestored!

I like the inclusiveness of the term; it includes North America, South America; in fact the entire globe!

Another way of expressing this is the African Diaspora

From Wikipedia:

African diaspora; One of the largest diasporas of pre-modern times was the African Diaspora, which began at the beginning of the 16th century. During the Atlantic Slave Trade, twenty million people from West, West-Central and South-east Africa were transported to the Western Hemisphere as slaves.

This population and their descendants were major influences on the culture of English, French, Portuguese and Spanish New World colonies. The Arab slave trade also transported Africans from the continent, although the effect of the Diaspora to the east is more subtle.

It is my hope that you will participate in the discussions, contribute information, and basically get in where you fit in!

Hi Beverly,
Happy Saturday!

Now, give the NC researchers a little more to go on.
Give 'em some dates, counties, and townships. With surnames like 'Jones' & 'Lewis', it's gonna be daunting to step up to the challenge! LOL

What specific research have you done so far?

Hi everyone, I am researching Randoolph Jones of North Carolina and William Lewis also of North Carolina. Any and all leads are appreciated.

Anita,

I recently switched from Legacy to Family Tree Builder by MyHeritage. I was impressed with how they handled blended/alternative lifestyle families with ease.

You might want to look at a conversation on my blog, written about 8 months ago. Make sure to check out the comments. http://bit.ly/cmUInw

I use Legacy and so far have had no problems. I am, however, open for suggestions if there is something better out there.

To Anita & Jeanette,

Sounds like a multicultural/blended family happening.
Does your current genealogy software accommodate your research?
Let me know!

There were Weavers in the Northern Neck of Virginia who left and settled in North Carolina. I believe the Weavers were Native, possibly Meherrin. They intermarried with my Pinn family in Virginia before moving to North Carolina.

Could they have been part of another county? Check out when the County was formed. Also check out adjoining Counties. I just learned that some of my Virginia Ancestors who were mixed Native/African moved into North Carolina and formed communities there. Maybe your ancestors were part of one of these communities. The communities are now Lumbee (see Lumbee North Carolina). The communities were formed by Cherokee, Meherrin, and Saponi Indians (in the 1700-1800). Hope this was helpful.

I am searching for Charity Ann Weaver born in 1836 in North Carolina. She married Jacob Bovender in Yadkin County in 1859. They moved to Lawrence County, Ohio by 1860. She had a son, Thomas born 1854. Charity and her son are listed in various census records as black, mulatoo, and white. Thomas's daughter said her father was half African American and half Native American. I can't find Charity's family. If anyone has information concerning Yadkin/Surry County African American or a Native Amrican/ African American community in those counties, I appreciate hearing from you.

Do you have 'Blended Families' or "Multicultural Families" in your ancestry?
