Comment by Susan Brenner on September 19, 2017 at 1:38pm: My Alley/Allee ancestors lived in NY before the Am Rev and moved to Canada. Don't know if they were Loyalists because I think they were French and the move to Canada may have been for free land or the lumber industry. After living in Canada some came back to the USA, Iowa, WI, MI, MN. Some were involved with lumber, another was a stone cutter some worked on railroads and others were farmers. Two were named David/Dave born in Canada, abt 1834 and 1874. They were father and son, both moved to Iowa from Canada and later WI. The younger Dave lived in Price Co., WI before he died 1954. He is my mother's grandfather.

Comment by Alison Zak on June 2, 2010 at 9:08am: I am a descendant of Alley from Fayette and Greenbriar counties in WV. My great grandfather was John Royal Alley(1898-1967). His father was Jacob J. Alley(1857-1912) and his father was Royal Alley(1822-?) from Goochland, VA. I have not been able to go further back yet.

Comment by Tom Shepherd on September 19, 2009 at 10:28am: Sandra, I'll have to do a little research. Since my main computer is down, I'll have to search through paperwork. I don't believe I have his middle name, but I'm not sure. The name Littleton doesn't ring a bell.

Comment by Sandra Alley on September 19, 2009 at 7:50am: Tom: Do you know what James Alley's middle initial stands for? We have Richard Dabney Littleton Alley. (went by RD mostly) ..(whose elusive father was Henry)...Littleton could have been a surname back in the family somewhere...RD was born in Virginia, moved to Wilson, NC, and then lived with daughter in Dillon, SC, where he died.

Comment by Tom Shepherd on September 18, 2009 at 7:37pm: I have a James L. Alley, born about 1730 in Virginia, moved to North Carolina, then back to Virginia. Descendants settled in Indiana and Missouri, then many on to Kansas.

Comment by Jeffrey Russell on September 18, 2009 at 2:53pm: My father's mother was an Alley, Juanita Ruth Alley, born in Larwill, Indiana. Her father was Edward M. Alley. I don't have much more than that. Hope to find more with everyone's assistance.

Comment by Tom Shepherd on September 17, 2009 at 11:35am: My father's mother was an Alley. From what I can tell, the name was changed from Allee in the 1400s when the family moved from France to England.
