Dianne, good comment and it's a complicated subject. I believe though if you are just using some images for your own personal use and not publishing them in a public tree or anywhere else then it certainly is acceptable. I should have added that along with my original message here. Copyright laws are very complicated and it's a whole discussion in of itself. I might add that after a certain period of time, images can be considered public domain, etc.
I feel that someone's person photos are another matter altogether. You should ask permission to use those and if you put those in your tree you should say from whom they originated. Of course that also applies to printed matter, etc.
Dianne, What a great reminder. I so appreciate the information you sent.
Thank you,
Patty
I want to thank you guys so much for all your help. Sarah, you were totally right on what I want to do. I'm sorry I was confusing with my question.
James, thanks for your suggestion. I can't wait to try it.
Sarah, thank you for the ships, they are just what I wanted. Plus your instructions are great.
I appreciate everything.

I think what Patty means is that she would like to incorporate an appropriate image such as she mentions like a graphic of a ship to show that an ancestor emigration or maybe one to indicate a person's military service. Patty, do a Google search for sailing ships or maybe the Civil War and you will find many images you can download to your computer and then upload to a person's profile on your Ancestry tree. I keep a file on my computer of images just for that purpose. I have flags; i.e., of varioius countries, many clipper ships and also old photos of places and so forth. I think images add visual interest to your tree. When you do a Google search on the left hand side of your screen choose "images." Here's a nice example of sailing ships to choose from:

Hi Patty, your question is a little confusing. Are you asking how to download items from Ancestry to your computer or vice-versa?? Once you clarify this, I'm sure you will get a quick response!
Happy Hunting- LeLani
Hello Everyone, I'm a member of Ancestry and have been one for about 2 years. As I have become more comfortable with my genealogy I have noticed that people add images on profiles along with their research data. I would love to add an image, such as something appropriate for a "Civil War Soldier". I have seen several different kinds of these images, like ships for Immigrants.
My question is does anyone know how to download these images?
Thank you for your help.
Patty
