Many thanks for that, Sandra! The details have added a few dates to my existing data and clarified that John had two sons named after him: one with Mary Simon and one with Julia Daly. Family tradition has it that he left Mary for Julia, and it looks as though all the surviving children were from that relationship.

It's possible that John came out here with three brothers, although no shipping record has been found. Records exist for John; Michael (d. at Belalie, aged 35, 1 Oct 1879); Richard (married Elizabeth MURLEY & had a daughter, Anna Maria, at Helston nr Kapunda on 8 Jan 1864) and Joseph (married Johanna McCORMACK and had a daughter, Mary, at Hamilton nr Kapunda on 15 Jan 1868). However, there is no Thomas, so heaven knows who the one in Victoria was!

And the plot thickens! Julia DALY is believed to have been the child of Mathew and Honora, who arrived in 1864 on the Ocean Chief with sons Carroll and John and daughters Mary and Cath. Was that the Mary who married Thomas MANEY?

Isn't it funny how every new piece of info raises two more questions?

Brilliant work, Sandra! I didn't have the birth for Honora jnr before - all I have is a brith record for her son, and I figured she must have been another child of John and Julia. The deaths of Mathias and Honora are new, too, and the info on Carroll and Selina gives me a whole new lateral!

But if that Mary DALY married Richard SHANAHAN, the one in Victoria must be from another line. Strange, another DALY/MANEY marriage! I'll keep looking for a possible connection.
