Member Information

This is a group for those in Australia who are researching their families no matter where they originate. New arrivals with no Aussie roots will benefit from membership.

When you join the group please make an introductory comment that tells us a little about yourself.

If you are able to offer help to others with lookups, tips, cemetery photos etc. please post a message in the Offers of Help by SKAS discussion forum.

If you need assistance please post check Offers of Help by SKAS discussion forum for relevant assistance and then post your request in the IF YOU WANT HELP/LOOK UPS POST IT HERE discussion forum.

If you are seeking information on a particular surname have a look for a group devoted to that surname.... if there is not one consider setting up a group....it's not an arduous task. Try using the Site Search on the Top Right Hand side of the page to find references to your surnames.

Please create and use the discussion forums to communicate with other members. There are only two discussions displayed - please use View All to browse through the whole list and find those of interest to you.

Have Fun

If anyone can send a google wave invite, I'd much appreciate it!

I am just experimenting with Google Wave - and have not been able to find out how to invite others to join my wave - so, so far not so good!

This is me dou999 @ googlewave dot com

I have just put up a blog on the subject as i think it may have lots of benefits for genealogy researchers.

Christine - I understand your frustration - one of the problems is that when people add new discussions then those like IF YOU WANT HELP/LOOK UPS POST IT HERE disappear down the list. I wish that, as administrator I could keep the more general discussions at the top and visible but that isn't possible :-((

Another problem is that posts in the discussion are listed with the latest post last and the oldest post first so your new posts can be way doen at the bottom or at the end of a few pages.

Hang in there - there are some really helpful members of this group who will manage to find your query and who will, hopefully, render assistance.

How do I find this forum to ask for help in please?
IF YOU WANT HELP/LOOK UPS POST IT HERE discussion forum.
I just posted two messages but I have no idea where they went or how to find them or how to see replies, and I can't find the forum above to ask for a look up!
Must be getting stupid in my old age, or else the stress of family history research is taking it's toll!
So this time I thought I'd try a comment. It could take me a while to get the hang of this whole site and each group!

Shauna Ballarat have been asked to have a stall at the Ballarat Show in a week or so. I am betting we will be very busy that weekend!

Thanks to Bobby for his kind offer of assistance in Offers of Help by SKAS discussion.

If you are able to do lookups etc please add your offer to the list.

A record search of The National Archives of Australia site brings up many records relating to the Postmaster General's Department. You would need to try a few appropriate keywords to narrow your search for those records you need.
