My interests in Australia are primarily Sheaves & associated families (Steer, Scruse & Jamieson). I have a file of "orphan" Sheaves as yet unconnected. I have linked up most Qld, Vic & NSW Sheaves as well as the NZ group. A First Officer John Sheaves popped in & out of Adelaide for a while & a Paul & Martin appear in Sydey Sands Directory for a couple of years then vanish into smoke.

My interest in Australia are
ROBBINS some Uncles are were boot makers and came to Australia in late 19th century. I should try again
Also any LANKSHEAR some came from England and later some from New Zealand.
Early ones where Harriet who went to Tasmania in 1823.
A mysterious John arrived c1832 and was in early Tassie census and then on ship between Port Philip and Sydney 1840s and then vanished

Another John arrived 1857 and had businesses in Wagga and then Ashfield.
His descendant has sent me some great photos.
I am a 10 pound pom myself.

Hi John and Sandra lets see what we can come up with in my enquiry and yes I totally agree Geniaus then we can go to another part with out cluttering up this one which is what I am about to do below, so here goes:

Sophia Louisa Wilhelmina AUFDERHEIDE,
daughter of Christian Heinrich (Henry) AUFDERHEIDE
and Gesche Margaretha(E) FUNCK,
was born about 1867 in Summertown, South Australia,
and died on 19 Mar 1902 in North Adelaide, South Australia, aged about 35.

Sophia married Robert Samuel TROWBRIDGE (also known as Robert) in ??.
Robert was born about 1889 in Snowtown ??? South Australia,
William Henry TROWBRIDGE was born on 7 Jun 1886 in Nantawara, Sth Aust,
and died on 8 Jan 1887 in Cameron, South Australia.
Edith Louisa TROWBRIDGE was born about 1892 in Snowtown, Clare, South Australia,
and died in 1982 in Adelaide - South Australia, aged about 90.
In or aroud this time they headed for Ballarat in Victoria hence the births in the Sth East
Eva May TROWBRIDGE was born on 30 Jan 1895 in Reedy Creek , South Aust.
Died ??? Married??? Children???
Alice Catherine TROWBRIDGE was born on 27 Jul 1897 in Kingston SE, South Aust,
Died??? Married??? Children???
Frederick Joseph TROWBRIDGE was born on 27 Sep 1899 in Kingston SE, South Aust,
Died??? Married??? Children???
Albert Edward TROWBRIDGE was born on 11 Sep 1901 in Hyde Park, South Australia,
and died on 9 Oct 1964 in Whyalla, South Australia at age 63.

Edith Louisa TROWBRIDGE (daughter of Sophia Louisa Wilhelmina ) was born about 1892 in Snowtown, Clare, South Australia, and died in 1982 in Adelaide,South Australia aged about 90.
Edith married Edwin George CHEESEMAN,
son of William Albert CHEESEMAN and Katherine Gertrude SMITH,
on 4 Aug 1909 in Snowtown Methodist Manse.
Edwin was born on 27 Feb 1890 in Snowtown, South Australia,
and died on 27 Oct 1966 in Belair , South Australia, at age 76.
William Albert has vanished as well with out trace.
Edwin George was born out of wed lock.

All the above is linked to the one family and are the brick walls

Hopefully there will be some answers that may help fill the gaps?

Thank you in advance

Hi All

I have hit a brick wall with my gg grandparents in Queensland. John Phillips and Martha Davis married 1851 in the Parish of Moreton Bay in the Colony of Stanley. They had 6 children between 1852 & 1861, the last Thomas born 1861 in Brisbane. In 1863 John Phillips married again to Eliza Tibbits, Martha Phillips seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth after the birth of Thomas, there are no death records for Martha Phillips or Martha Davis (her maiden Name) either in Queensland or NSW. We do not know who Martha's parents were. Both were devoted Wesleyan's according to their marriage certificate. Another thought was she may have been placed in an institution after 1861 and Eliza Tibbits was the nanny engaged to look after the children. Have checked divorce records n Qld with negative results. Perhaps someone may have a clue where we can go from here. Thanks

Sometime while I was sleeping our 50th member joined the group. Thank you to John Shorten for his offer to look up BDMs - we have two members who have now offered to do this.

I thought it might be worth starting a Forum within the group where people can post offers to do lookups, take photos of headstones etc. Otherwise I can see these kind offers being lost in amongst other general messages.
