Baker family of Surry Co.,NC

I am researching David Baker of Surry Co.,NC. He was born abt.1801 and he married Elizabeth Hutchens (b. abt.1835) in 1860. She brought her mother, Nancy Hutchens and 2 sons with her into the marriage. The sons were William and Joshua. I can find no record of either David or Elizabeth having been married before. David is my brick wall. I can find nothing before him, nor can I find any info on his death or where he is buried.
I do know that Eliz. left David and moved to Va.,taking their youngest daughter, Nancy Jane, and her mother, Nancy Hutchens. She and David had several children, one of which was my GGrandfather, Thomas Jefferson Baker. He and his oldest sister, Elizabeth Catherine lived with R. Turner Pilson and his wife after their mother left them.
If you can shed any light on this family for me, I would be most appreciative. I have been butting my head against this wall for about 2 1/2 years. I cannot find anything abt. his parents, birthplace, or siblings.
