I am searching for something that will prove the relationship between Gilbreath and Roger Barton/Margaret Gilbreath. Gilbreath was born in VA (don't know if it was Berkeley or Frederick County) in 1775. He married Eleanor Talbot on 6 Sep 1798 in Frederick Co., VA.

They all moved to Tennessee around 1799. Roger would die in Clinton, Anderson Co., TN on 4 Jan 1822. Margaret would go to Knox Co. to live with one of her daughters and die on 24 Jun 1826.

Gilbreath and Eleanor ended up in Alabama sometime after 1809. Eleanor would die before 1830. Gilbreath remarried a woman named Jane. He died in Oct 1839 in Marshall Co., AL.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Obviously, the paper trail solution is preferred. However, the dna option can be a useful tool if you know a male Barton from both families. If the descendants match, it says they do have a recent common ancestor. (though it typically won't define their specific relationship)

The Barton Historical Society will provide a partial sponsorship for the first known desendant to test in each family. I don't recall any of our participants naming either of these two Barton men (Gilbreath or Roger)

Terry Barton
