Beauvais (St. Jemme)

My Beauvais line trickled down into southern Louisiana - mainly Avoyelles and Pointe Coupee parishes - and ended with my great-grandfather, Horace Joseph Beauvais (1908-1989).

My great-grandfather first ran a country store in or around Bayou Jack, Louisiana in Avoyelles Parish. He and his family (my gr-grandmother, Melina Nugent, and their daughter, Dorothy) moved to Maringouin, Louisiana in Iberville Parish circa 1944. Horace purchased the town's country store from a Mr. Carville and the family ran the store for the next forty-or-so years; it eventually fell to his son-in-law (co-owner), my grandfather, Riley Prestenback (1926-2009), who sold the store (now BobBens) circa 1983.
