Here's my brick wall...The Willows

My mother was adopted from The Willows, an orphanage/home for unwed mothers, in Kansas City, Missouri sometime in 1923 or early 1924. I have a birth certificate with a name given her at birth (which was changed by her adopted parents), her alleged ancestral origins (i.e., English, Irish, German, etc.) and a name I assume was the Doctor who delivered her. The Willows, unfortunately, was closed I think in the '70's, when the original founder retired. The problem? The founder billed the place as a haven for the best class of unwed mothers and their progeny and she made a solemn promise that no one would ever be able to trace a child to their birth mother. In fulfillment of this promise, the woman took all the records and burned them when she retired. But there MUST be some way to identify the birth parents of children adopted from this home. Does anyone else have experience with The Willows? Any clues about how to work around this? Time is running out for me. My mother is in her 80's now which means that her birth parents are undoubtedly long-gone and any siblings or other relatives from her generation are likely to disappear in the near future, as well.
