I've been working on my FIL's Tietjen family for the past three years and recently discovered that some of his family may have ended up in Sacramento, which is ironic since my in laws spent most of their last 40 years in CA, mostly near Sacramento.
So, as of this weekend, we've been trying to make a connection between 3 Tietjen families, 2 of which ended up in Sacramento, California.
Carsten Tietjen, born 1847-48 in Germany, married Mary Goebel in Brooklyn in 1872, they had ten children. Around 1887-88 they arrived in CA, Mary died in 1888. Carsten married Elizabeth Koch Buck, they had one child together, Frank W. Carsten. Carsten Tietjen died in 1932-33.
John William Tietjen born 1863 in Germany, married Bertha Bohle in Brooklyn circa 1894, they had at least 8 children, including 3 in CA. John William died between the 1910-1920 census records in CA.
Claus Tietjen born 1855 in Germany, married Meta Maria Eickmann in 1872 in Brooklyn, they had several children, only 3(possibly), certainly 2 daughters lived to adulthood, and they died early of TB in NY. Claus died in 1890, is buried in All Faiths Cemetery, with his daughters and other children who died in childhood. After his death, Meta married a Hermann Langenhop(Langenhaupt), the last we find Meta, she is living in a German 'Old Folks Home' in Bergen, NJ.
We find a pedigree on Family Search that indicates these three Tietjens are 3 of possibly 9 children born in Germany, possibly more of their siblings arrived in the US, but we are 80-90% sure these three did.
Also, on a naturalization record for a John William Tietjen, a Claus Tietjen is his witness.
I'd be happy to share the info I have if anyone has a connection to this family.
