Helo Julie i have Canady -Kennedy in my family line from Ireland from 1700s directly to me i wonder if my line could be related to JFKs ancestry to Ireland?

Hello:
New member here. I am researching the CANADAY (etc.) name and am stopped at the parents of James R. and Susan Ann who each married into my husband's MCCOY line in KY. James married Polly MCCOY 4 Nov 1835 in Breckinridge Co., KY. Susan married John Paine MCCOY 30 Jan 1834, same place. I believe that they had a sibling named Harrison (1850 KY census) and that their mother's name was Jane. The surname was spelled differently on every census. Parents were born in VA according to census information, Jane about 1784.She was widowed after 1826 (at least that's when Harrison was born).

I think that probably happened a lot. In our Alabama census, our Kennedy ancestors show up as Canady and Kenady as well as Kennedy. Of course there is also the explanation that to avoid being labeled 'Indian', they changed their names, birth dates, etc. to avoid detection.

Hi, Barbara:
I noticed on the 1881 Canadian census that William Kennedy's surname was spelled "Canaday". Since the family was from Ireland, it's quite possible the census taker didn't quite understand the pronunciation of the Kennedy name. In other records the name was spelled Kennedy.

Jeanette, There were 2 Kennedy brothers who came to America from Ireland together, or so the story goes and they argued and one of them changed the spelling of his name to Cannaday. From that spelling we get the variations. Of course, that is just one of the many Kennedy tales. I think that people writing the records just guessed at how it was spelled, but who knows for sure? I am pursuing the line from Va and how they married and had children with the Native Americans living there at the time.

My 3x great grandparents were Henry Kennedy and Ann Montgomery. They were born in Ireland, and emigrated to Canada about the 1850s. Their children were John (born about Feb. 1853); William (born about 18 Feb. 1853; died 18 July 1922 in Belmont Twp., Peterborough Cty., Ontario - my 2x great grandfather); Robert (born about 1855; died 13 April 1939 in Peterborough, Peterborough Cty., Ontario); James Henry (born about 1862; died 13 April 1893); and Margaret (born about 1872). There are stories that they could originate from the Enniskillen area of Ireland.
I'm anxious to find out more about the Kennedy clan and my heritage.

Hi Barbara,

I left a comment on Ron's Page giving him som directions to the Vinson Cemetery. They were included in some information I requested and received from the Anniston Public Library regarding my Mother's family. Five of their children are also buried there.

According to the information I have on William Foster Kennedy, he is buried at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, which according to the article, is about two miles from the old homeplace where he lived. Do you have any idea where this is located? I'm afraid I don't..

I'm trying not to be long-winded this time. Hope this little bit of info helps.
