Stella, I did some searching in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census for you. In Goss, Morgan co, GA there is a slave owner, George Martin. He has quite a few slaves, probably 40 or so. Unfortunately the census does not list the slave name. However, there is a female slave, age 27, and also a female slave age 10 in the 1860 census. I believe I found your Gt Gt grandmother in the 1870 census in Walton co, GA. The listing is Harriet Martin, age 39, Julia Martin age 20, Tyler Martin age 17, Mary Martin age 12 and a male ?abella age 4. (I can't figure out the first letter). So in the 1860 census the 10 year old female could be Julia Martin. I'm not sure if you have done much genealogy research, but it is quite common for ages to vary some from census to census. I would not be concerned that Harriet is listed as 39 in 1870 but only 27 in 1860. I also have an ancestry subscription so I checked the family history section and there are several individuals who have Tyler listed as an ancestor and they connect him to this George Martin, slave owner. I hope this helps you.
there was an individual who said George Martin was a relative of hers & could have been my GG Grandmother Harriet(t) slave master. I took upon myself to add him to my family tree. Do u think it would be wise of me to get in touch w any of his other relatives & see if they would get in touch w me? What is the name of your ancestry subscription?
Stella, here are the trees on Ancestry that show Tyler Martin son of George Martin and Harriet. Robinson-A(c)kridge Family Tree. (This one has a picture of Tyler Martin). Akridge-Martin Family Tree. This one indicates the father as "Slave Master Martin" it does not show George Martin. The Henry/Heynard - Martin Family Tree. This one again shows father as Slave Master. These are the top three family trees on Ancestry. The first one has a death record for Tyler, perhaps that lists his father. I think you should try to get in touch with the other relatives. Tyler appears to have had a lot of children and apparently three wives. Perhaps one of those descendents might have the piece of info you need. I figure what is the worst that can happen? They don't want to share. Oh well, no loss, but if they do then that is a positive thing. Good luck with your search.
