Andrew John McDonald

Hi, I also belong to Scottish Ancestry and have posted comments there about my grandfather, Andrew John McDonald. His Australian marriage certificate stated he was born in Burntisland, Scotland and his father was John McDonald, Engineer, deceased by 1915, mother Nellie Pringle. Andrew was aged 25 when he married in Australia in April 1915. On his Australian Army Service Enlistment papers he stated he was born near Glasgow and he was an apprentice carpenter at Robertson & Sons for 3 and a half years. He is my brick wall!

Have been unable to find a birth for him with parents John and Nellie. Closest I've found is a birth on Scotlands People for Andrew McDonald, born 15 August 1886, Parish Kilsyth, County Stirling, father John McDonald, gamekeeper, mother Agnes McDonald nee Pringle.

How do I know it's my grandfather when his family had no idea of any siblings? Any help would be much appreciated. Jan Westcott nee McDonald
