John, What kind of court records are you talking about?

Hi Nora,

Court records from the late 17th century and into the 18th century in the State of CT. In researching ancestors here in Massachusetts a few years ago, I was able to find a lot of information about one 17th century ancestor. A remarkable amount. The court records are a wealth of information and typically information most family historians don't pursue.

Hi John,

Yes, probate records can be quite useful--if your ancestors owned property. I thought maybe you meant civil or superior court. The probate system in Conn. is a bit confusing since it is based probate districts which generally track with towns. That is, they are not organized on the county level. Over the centuries new districts have been created so it is important to follow the establishment of new towns and probate districts in order to know where to look for records for the person of interest.

Would anyone be able to see if they can find any info on Frank Van der Meulen Mills and his wives #2 Mary Elisabeth Sills and #1 Kate Chapman Wilson its not a family research but an interesting story I am happy to share,
