I am desc from their son, William Stephen Cross who was born abt 1826-31 ( based on census data). He and brother Henry came to Texas before 1860, landing in Polk Co. Stephen married Dorah Angelina Rodgers (of Ala) and settled in Village Mills, Hardin Co. TX. They are my great-great-grandparents. They divorced in 1896, and no one has ever found their graves.

There is a CROSS family reunion held every Oct in Batson, Hardin Co TX. See my website for details.

Outside of Polk & Hardin Counties Texas, (meaning prior to 1860) my research defers to the excellent research of Sharon Sukiennik. She has spent hours, years, and no telling how much $$ in researching this family line (Jesse Cross & Celia Dover).

Celia's father, Francis Johnson Dover, was a Revolutionary War soldier, b. 28 June 1760, Haw River, near Guilford, Orange CO NC.; d. 13 Dec 1851, probably Habersham CO, GA. He married 1) Mary Ann " Polly" Posey, 1786 in York District SC, b. abt 1768, probably SC, d. between 1817/1820. (She is the mother of Celia Dover Cross), 2) Mary Mullinax.

One of their children, Miles Cross did go to Tenn:

Miles Cross (b. 1827 GA ,d. 1912 Sevier, Ark ) married Elizabeth White,(b. Jul 4, 1823 NC, d. Dec 3, 1913, Nellie, Stephen Co., Okla.) 1845 or there about. The family lived near Ringgold, GA. The following children were born to this union:

1 Margaret (Sarah) Cross, born 1847, married Andrew J. Rowell on Mar 6, 1868, GA. They had two daughters who became Alice (b. 1870 Tenn. and m. William J. Jackson) Jackson and Ellen Monroe (b. Jan 27, 1872 Mo. & d. Nov 15, 1967 McCurtain Co., Okla.). Both buried at DeQueen, Ark. (1920 Ellen was a widow living w/son Louis in McCurtain Co., Okla)

2 James Calvin Cross, born May 1, 1849 married Nancy Davis. He died in Oklahoma.

3 Lucy Evaline Cross, born May 20, 1851, married John E Folkner. They had 10 children, and lived at Hixon, Tenn.

4 Julia Caroline Cross, born 1855, married Jim Patterson and had 4 or more children. Lived and died in Rome, GA.

* 5 William Gus Cross, born Ringgold, GA Feb 15, 1859.

Hi Sherry,

You and I have exchanged emails before - you were able to find information about my grandfather, William Franklin Cross, for us. We still have not been able to trace his family. We do know that his father, Willie Cross, was married to A. Casalonia 'Cassie' Richey Sanders (one census spells it Carrie but that's wrong). Cassie had previously been married to Hampton Sanders and had a son but they apparently seperated (I've not found any divorce records), the son remained with the father, and she married Willie Cross on February 24, 1879 in Falls County, TX. Since I've found evidence that Willie Cross married Jennie Maines about 1885. I have not been able to find any record of Cassie after the birth of William Franklin (he had an older sister Sallie Richie Cross Marlin). A. Casalonia 'Cassie' Richey was the daughter of Daniel M. Richey and Sarah Brown. Her brother was Daniel Boone Richey, well known in parts of Texas.

The 1880 census shows Willie Cross being born in Georgia. I have not been able to find any further information for him anywhere - birth or death - Georgia or Texas. If anyone has any clues about this Cross family we will be forever grateful!!
