Dacre Castle (my fairytale home)

This is Dacre Castle in Dacre Cumbria. We visited here last year on our research holiday. The castle is rented out and we were very lucky to be able to view it as it's not open to the public. I can't find a direct link to this line of Dacres but I'm not far enough back in my research yet. I'll keep looking for the key to the door!

Anita, a couple of corrections to my post. William Daker shows up in the 1838 Census of Parrsboro, N.S. Canada. By 1861, there are no Daker's in the area with the exception of Margaret who married Hiram Brown. Margaret and Hiram were married Dec 1856 in Parrsboro. I believe she also had a brother James (and perhaps William Jr) as there are marriage records for both in the same time period.
My GAunt remembers visiting a Daker family in Sudbury, MA, USA int he early 1900's who were cousins of her father's but lost track of the family.

Hi Greg, where was William Daker in the 1861 census? I'll see if I have a Margaret in our tree. We have James and George's but not in the one family that I can see. Other than my line John William who came to Australia and a couple of others that went to New Zealand mostly they stayed in UK.not sure where else they went.,

Looking for info on the family of Margaret Dacre (Daker) who married Hiram Brown in Parrsborro, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1838. She died prior to 1871. Her father was most likely William Daker who appears in the 1861 census for that area as there was a female child listed who was less than 14 years of age. She also had brothers George and James. George was last know to be living in Chelsea, MA in 1880 and married to Pauline. Any help on this brick wall would be greatly appreciated.

Hi JoAnn, that is a fantastic effort, we don't get back that far. Our line goes back to William Dacre (born abt 1753 died 1841) who married Mary Robshaw, they had a 8 children one being William (1779-1859) who married Hannah Briggs. William died in Wetherby this was the area a lot of family lived, some in Bramham and Clifford as well. Do you have connections with that area? I'd love to know more of your line. look forward to hearing from you again. I've been a little busy of late and not been on here as often as I'd like.
