Hello I am new to the site and this group. I received this email from the DAR.
A search of our Patriot Index provided the information found below. STAFFORD, Joshua Birth: Before (ante) 1743Service: SCRank: PS CSDeath: GA Before (ante) 20 Aug 1795 Patriot Pensioned: No Widow Pensioned: No Children Pensioned: No Heirs Pensioned: No Spouse: (1) Martha X----end of message.
Here is where my ancestor is listed.
St. Andrew's Parish Chapter Darien, Georgia
Could someone please tell me just what documentation the DAR requires for proof?
For the first 3-4 generations, you should use birth/marriage/death certificates whenever possible (you are generation 1). Once you get back before certs were required, there are a number of avenues. Some communities still kept a record of vital statistics even if they didn't issue certs. Family bibles, church records, wills, and probate records can also be used. Land deeds, court minutes, and case opinions will also sometimes include genealogical information.
Are South Carolina and Georgia where you expected to find your Joshua Stafford? I ask because I ran another search on the Patriot Index and turned up 2 Joshua Staffords. The one you've referenced and one from Rhode Island.
Thank you Lynette, it's good to know I can use such varied sources. This actually won't be as bad as I had thought. And yes my Joshua Stafford was From Georgia - S.C.
Again thank you for your help I appreciate it.
Rebecca
Do you know which child of Joshua Stafford you come off of by any chance? Ive just checked the DAR Patriot Index online and there have been a lot of people go in under this patriot. If your line has been done all you would need is to take it back four generations.
I can help you with it if you want it.

Hello
I am needing some advice on how best to proceed for DAR. I am adopted and my birthfamily lines go to several direct ancestors who were in the American Revolution. I have checked their names and and see that others have also used those lines.
My question is what types of info would you need in the case of an adopted person? Thank you in advance for your help.
