where did my post go ladies. It completely disappeared for some reason.
Judy I think that you have just about covered everything for Betty Jo.
If she can not find a marriage record for the one generation that would Dayton Lewis Green parents all she would need is a census with them on it along with Dayton listed. I had to do that with one of my generations and the dar accepted it.
Plus if she cant find Phedelia Green death record all she would need is the last census she was on and the picture of the tombstone. I think they will accept that as proof too.

I totally agree with everything that you have said in your post.
Sounds like you have told her exactly what she needs to do with her patriot.
I even looked on Newspaper Archives website for an obt on Phedelia Green since she died in 1901 and no luck.
If she can't' find a death record but has the 1900 census and the picture of the tombstone wont the DAR accept that. All she would need is proof that Dayton Lewis Green was her son.
Does that make sense to you?

amen Lynette. I figure there was somebody out there that could explain to her what that meant. I just ddn't want her to do all that work and be told sorry but you can't use that patriot. Thats why a lot of time i will go looking to see if a person maybe has another patriot that they can use in case the person they want to use doesnt work out for them.

I was helping a lady locally and couldn't find her a patriot to use at all on either side and thats unusual too.

Patsy/Betty Jo:

Given the national numbers of the previous daughters who joined under Ithamar Parsons, it's probably a matter of the standards of proof from those time periods not meeting the standards currently in use. For example, when I finally got a copy of my Aunt Jenny's papers (her national # was in the 10Ks), her "proof" of lineage consisted of "he was my grandfather," which obviously wouldn't fly today. The information provided therein could still provide you with a valuable road map for the locating the proofs you'll need.

I just found you another patriot. Samuel Stow Hawley. His daughter Lucy Hawey married your Aaron Parsons. Samuel is listed on Dar Patriot Index. I found on the membership page of the DAR...

Betty Jo,

I want to clarify your generations and what you already have. You indicated you have the records for your first three generations, that would be yourself, your parents and your grandparents Joseph Green.

Then you have said that you have some info on Dayton Lewis Green and his wife (your 4th generation) . Do you have the Green - Wheeler marriage record, death certificates, and obits for these two individuals?

I see that marriage record might be available and also an obit for Dayton. I would assume that perhaps his widow married again after his death. Have you found this to be true?

You have further indicated that it is your 5th generation where you have hit the wall. I just want to make sure your 4th generation has sufficient proof.

Thanks to Patsy we know that the DAR is going to require very specific proof on this patriot.

In that regard: The following might be your source for the Green - Wheeler marriage.

Huron County was formed in 1809 and organized in 1815 from Portage, Geauga and Cuyahoga counties. The records in this database cover the years 1878 through 1900.
Original data: Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1878-1900. County court records located at Norwalk, Ohio. Family History Library film # (0410260 - 0410263)

I would also call Huron County Clerk of Probate Court at 419-668-4383 and ask if they have a record of this marriage and I would obtain a copy from them.

Do you have Dayton Green's Obit which was published in the Norwalk Reflector, Jan 30, 1892, Page 3, Column 8?

I have included the above information that I foud tonight as I don't want to loose it, if you do not already have it. Since this is not my ancestor, tomorrow I may not remember why I wrote this stuff down...I refer to them as my golden moments!

Assuming you already have all the above on your 4th generation, what information pointed you in the direction of your 5th generation, Philip Green and Phedelia Parsons? Was it Dayton's death certificate, census records, or something else? It appears they could have married in New York. What about the other children in the family, what is the earliest birth date and in what state was that child born?

Patsy, do you have any other thoughts?

Judy I totally agree with you. She try and Find out where they got married etc that will help out a lot Plus getting those census with her on it with the husband and childern. Especially one that will show it with her parents and then with her hubby and child that Betty comes in on. The tombstone pictures will help out too.

Betty Jo, I see, on Phedelia you are probably not going to find an actual birth certificate as 1811 is too early before they did birth certificates, but you might be able to secure a death certificate for her if she died in 1901. I would suggest that you get as many records on her as you can, like census records, maybe church records, along with the picture of the tombstone. Let's work on the marriage record. Is there a family Bible that records the marriage? Since we have an actual date, it would seem that someone has found a record of the marriage. Do you know where the marriage took place? Was it Akron? Sometimes i get in touch with anothr researcher and ask them where they got the date.

I have the first three generations. I also have some info on Lillis and Dayton as I am working on First Families of Ohio on the Wheelers. I have been unable to find a marriage license for Phedelia Parsons and Philip Dayton Green or a birth certificate for her.

Betty Jo,

I did a little research on Ancestry, and note the following information provided by other Green researchers: that Dayton Green was married to Lillie Wheeler, daughter of Calvin Wheeler. Lillie Wheeler was born 14 Nov 1861 and died 2 Feb 1933. Lillie and Dayton were married 25 Nov 1879.

Phedelia Parsons was born 9 Jun 1811 in New York and died 9 July 1901. Her parents appear to have been Calvin Hawley Parsons and Sphhronica Camp.

I did not prove the above information but provide it as a resource for you to further investigate your ancestors. I did see in the 880 census that Dayton Green and Lillie Green where living whith Dayton's father in law, Calvin Wheeler. Most of these events took place in Ohio so I would start by figuring out how to obtain vital records in Ohio.

I cannot stress enough that you need to have your first three generations "nailed down" before you proceed. If you are like me, you probably know your parents and grandparents, you just need to get some documents so that there are no surprises.
