Let all the branches of the Daragon dit Lafrance Family unite!

How many descendants of this very large family are out there today? How many of us are actively researching the family history?

Let's see how many cousins we can collect from our first common ancestor! Can we find a descendant from each surviving child of the first François and Marie?

From beginner to experienced Lafrance family researchers, (as well as drop in company chasing someone who married into their family), here is a place where we can share and discuss our various travels and discrepencies.

Don't forget to hit the *join this group* button : )

and then hit the *Invite friends to the group* button (for genealogists, that should read invite every distant cousin that you have in your address book!).

Perhaps our bilingual cousins can work on some translations for our Francophone cousins?

Norm, I went to your site and found a little extra bonus, a link to the American-French Genealogical Society, Woonsocket, RI http://www.afgs.org/ which is a wonderful site not only for people who, like myself, have many relatives who headed to the US during the mid to late 1800's, but the site also has many helpful sub-pages like 'Terms and Phrases' or the ASCII code for 'French Accents' and so on. Thank you Norm

My great great grandmother Olivine Lafrance married Ferdinand Turpin on April 10th 1870. Olivine is the daughter of Louis Lafrance and Henriette Asselin and is the sister of Onésime Lafrance, married to Sophie Godard-Lapointe. Olivine and Ferdinand are the last couple on the left in

the photo.

Michelle: My records show Marie- Marthe died Jan 14, 1777.
In Windsor Assumption.
I also have her second husband as Jean Baptiste Goyau Lagarde married September 02, 1740.
I do not know where this information came from. I have never confirmed this information, but it is a starting point for you.

Bonjour,
I am pleased to join this group, which focuses on my ancestors, Francois Darragon and Marie Guilmet. I am a descendant of their son Michel. I have a Web site which lists of their descendants in my line. You can view it at: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/d/e/r/Normand-T-Deragon/index.html.
I look forward to participating in the discussions.

I have been trying to find the death record of the first daughter Marie-Marthe Daragon-Lafrance. She was born 15 Dec 1698 in St-Jean, Île-d'Orléans, New France. She married Julien Bonvouloir-dit-Deslières in Montreal on 23 Nov 1717. Can anyone tell me where/when she died?

Hi Jean, I have Melodie's baptism record and she was born on 7 December 1871 at St-Albert, Russell County, Ontario and baptized at St-Jacques, Embrun, Ontario. She married Alfred Tremblay (1863-1923) as you said on 24 August 1891 at St-Albert. On the 1901 Census she is shown as being born on 19 December 1873 and on the 1911 Canadian Census she is shown as being born on December 1873. She was in fact two years older than she, or who ever gave the information to the Census taker, thought. It was very common to be off on one's own birth year.

Thank you for the idea about North Cobalt but she does not appear to be there. The records for North Cobalt where transferred to Haileybury at some point - Michelle would be able to say exactly when - and the Holy Cross Church in Haileybury does not have her shown as being in North Cobalt either. A cousin, Hank Lefleur, recently went to the North Cobalt cemetery to take a look at the markers and he did not spot one for Melodie. Of course, the marker may have been made of wood and long since disintegrated. Thanks for the idea though.

Judy , my great grandmother was MarieAgnes, born february 17, 1870 at St. Albert. I show Melodie as born 1872? and that she married Alfred Tremblay on August 24, 1891 ..my Agnes was married in St. Albert do not have a place for yours but mine was 1889 and yours 1891 so could be st albert too. Agnes is buried at North Cobalt cemetary..maybe Melodie is there or the Cobalt cemetary...there are two here.

This is a picture of my great grandmother Melodie Lafrance (1871-abt 1943). She was the daughter of Onésime and Sophie Godard dite Lapointe. Does anyone have a burial date for her? My grandmother, Melodie's daughter Yvonne Tremblay, told me that Melodie is buried at the Holy Cross cemetery in Haileybury but there exists no marker and no church records of the burial. In census records Melodie is shown as having been born in 1873. I have her baptismal record and she was born in December of 1971. Any help finding burial information or perhaps another photo would be wonderful.

I have a world subscription to Ancestry.ca and would be happy to do a look up for anyone needing a record of an ancestor.
