I love visiting cemeteries, too. I'm taking an online genealogy class on gravestones and cemeteries right now and have been overly excited that our week's homework is to visit three local cemeteries. :-) Thank you for creating this group!

There is another group on here on gravestone symbolism, as you may already know. Perhaps it could be a sister group with a link in the info section?

Hi Debbra,

Thank you for the two interesting articles you posted. We enjoy searching for headstones and in the UK for ancient Celtic stones.

Hi! I'm another one of those freaks that takes pictures of headstones. lol! (btw - I see that the photo above is all stretched out. I think I read in another forum that it has to be resized to fit. I just wish I could remember which one!)

I had to join just to see what was meant by the group title.....was hoping I didn't read about myself, lol My grandfather was from Minnesota but ended up in Arizona. When family died, the Minnesota people would send photos of the casket, headstone, the funeral card, the obit from the paper. My mom kept them all. Now that I have taken over the genealogy, I find myself doing the same. Photos of the headstones can really help if the headstone gets lost with time or the elements.

I enjoyed reading your comment Kay, my friends and family think I am nuts too. You are right though there is so much to be learned from the graves and cemeteries if you take the time to study them.
I find that most cemeteries are peaceful places and I tend to plan my weekends around day trips to graveyards in the area.
Glad to meet you Kay! Pull up a chair and make your self home
