Hi -- new to this forum and wanted to share the following links.

The Bergen County Historical Society (BCHS) has some great information on their Demarest House -- which they saved from destruction. The BCHS is currently restoring the property so it's not open to the public right now, but I was very excited to visit a few weeks ago nonetheless. (They also have an amazing museum collection which is, unfortunately, in need of a new home, but is documented online.) Also nearby is the Old French Burying Ground which has been mapped and documented. (It is generally not open to the public.)

FYI, I'm a descendant of Catherine Demarest and Jacob A. Berdan of Acquanock, NJ. As soon as I complete some Berdan documentation, I'll be starting research into some of my maternal branches, Demarests, Van Sicklens, and Van Blarcoms abound.

Armando Framarini,

Thank you so much! I am very happy to see these clues for members of this group. I may be one of the members who benefits myself. Many US Demarest descendants descend from Jean desMarets and Marguerite deHerville, and I am one of them.

Was looking for this branch who were close to Nevius/Neef/Neeffs and de Leonardis/Lenaerts/Lennarts/Leonards families.

You could get more info on the different de Mares lines which I believe you are related to from dutch family website marres.nl

Also information from Central Bureau of Genealogie website (CBG.nl)
They have genealogies, coat of arms, and wax seal that can be ordered over the internet.

What may also be of great interest to you which cannot be ordered over the internet but photocopied there is from the famous MUSCHART heraldry collection on microfilm. Only partial description is given in dutch, card contains other genealogical information.

Pay attention to all the arms and the variants they are under.

Armando, I am not familiar with the de Marez name, but de Mares is pretty close. Where have you found families with these names?

Curious of Demarest name when I saw it! I research old Dutch and Belgian coat of arms and was wondering if the Demarest name was a variant of the "de Mares/de Marez" families of 1500's?

Bob, welcome to the group! You can see from the earlier comments that a few of us are members of the same prolific Demarest family. I made a detailed post about mine on July 19th.

I like your picture. I don't get to upstate New York as often as I should, but that photo makes me wonder if we could possibly have been in the same place at the same time when my cousin took me to a big Renaissance festival one August when I was visiting her. She lives in suburban Rochester, but I think we traveled east from there to get to the festival.

If you ever do the DNA thing, I would be very interested in your results. There is a Demarest DNA project at FTDNA, but it doesn't seem to be attracting any members. The administrator also started a project at Ancestry, but I'm not sure that anyone has tested through them either. I prefer FTDNA myself and have thought about chipping in for a test, but I am a number of generations removed from Demarest ancestors with a third great grandmother the last in my direct line to be born with the Demarest name. I haven't found any cousins to test.

Hello everyone, just stopping in to say Hi. My primary line is through David Jr. and have secondary lines back to David Jr. and Samuel. My 5th Great Grandfathers were 5-180 Petrus David Demarest and his older brother 5-176 Abraham David Demarest. Both were in the Outwater Co. of the Bergen County Militia and were granted land in Broadalbin, NY. The line has been in the Mohawk Valley since 1792. I was born the furthest West in the Valley in Rome, NY.

Glad to see some interest. I have a family page on Facebook for those interested. "Grandchildren of David and Marie Sohier desMarets" with over 200 family members in many of the name variations. If interested, please request entry...
