We have been working on linking each Norton Coat of Arms with a DNA Signature.

The big challenge has been to sort out the various Norton Arms.

So far we have a DNA pedigree for the Nortons of Guilford, CT which links to the Nortons of Sharpenhoe. This family seems to have invented Arms to link with Norvile who is claimed to have come with William the Conqueror.

Another major Norton device is the chevron. This line connects with the Nortons of Branford, CT which is a distinct line from the Nortons of Guilford.

In addition there is the Norton Arms of York. We have some conflicting DNA results for this line and are awaiting more DNA samples.

A final Norton device is the bend. This DNA signature links with the Nortons of Guilford, CT.

Several of the Norton Arms pedigrees have died out. This includes the Nortons of Rotherfield, England.

My two grandsons are Nortons, will get hold of their Grandfather in California and see if he might be interested in doing the DNA test. He has dabbled in Genealogy Research and is starting to get back into it.
Nancy, do you know what your Norton pedigree looks like? I can help steer you to better results if I have some idea of where you link up.
