Just sent email to NIGS.
I read the reading material for the course and it looks great. I had doubts when it said “Introduction to Genetic Genealogy” and even though I am familiar with genealogyDNA I learned a few new things from the course material. I believe you will have a hit for this course.
I am confused by the start date for the course. Feb. 2 or Mar. 2. I would like to see a profile on the NIGS page for Diahan. I don’t see a link in the Virtual Meetings for this course or meeting date.
The scrolling notices on the right side of the webpage indicate this new course starts Mar. 2nd while the registration indicates it starts Feb. 2nd. Which is correct?
I did not receive any advance notification of this new course and fortunately was just surfing through NIGS and spotted it. I think new courses should be promoted and announcements sent out.
I look forward to the course and possibly future course on the same subject.
Hi Paul,
This is a fabulous course and I think you will enjoy it. This course beings in February and runs every month so you can choose which month to take the course.
You're right, we don't have a profile for Diahan on the website yet. The Virtual Meeting for this course has not been decided but it may be part of the Methodology Virtual Meeting.
We typically promote new courses through the blog http://blog.genealogicalstudies.com/ and our various social media websites, including GenealogyWise. We have several new courses starting in February that I will be writing more about this week.
We will be adding new DNA courses in the future.
Take care,

I charged ahead and completed the course and exam. I also contacted Diahan Southard and reviewed her website.I did the experiment "DNA Extraction from a Strawberry' and found the free chart on Diahan's website useful in that it provides a quick guide to percentages of shared DNA for cousins in cM values.I am surprised there are not more enrolled since it appears I may be the only one in this round. I suspect there is competition form sites in the USA regarding DNA.
I would recommend NIGS send a marketing email to past students especially those with PLCGS to mention the course. Like myself, many may be unaware of this new course. Such a course did not exist up to now and may graduates have likely tried researching with GenealogyDNA.
