I have traced my Dorman links back to Yates County NY, and it appears they arrived there from New Haven CT and a short stay in PN. You are tracing Dorman...but from where?
Hello Ellen
A pleasure to meet you. My apologies for the typo. It should have been PA. I have yet to be able to determine - with proof - the European heritage of my Dorman family line, however, My earliest Dorman that I have records on were born in or near New Haven Ct. My guess has always been German or English, however....
While I have anecdotal information on previous generations, my most confidence is in Dr John Dorman b. Dec 1762 New Haven Co CT. d. Sep 1821. Some time after the Revolutionary War, as CT was claiming land in PA, John Moved, then in about 1796 he was recruited by a David Wagener to move from a "friends" settlement in PA [location unknown at this time] to Penn Yan, Yates CO, NY. I do not know how many Dormans went to PA, or where in PA they were.... maybe this is our link if the years match up
My portion of the Dorman line stayed for several generations until Delbert Dorman b Sep 1840 in Yates CO NY eventually migrated to Michigan in 1875.
Does any of this match yours???? I have no idea where the immigration is from, at least not yet. It appears that there may be a couple additional generations in CT prior to the Revolutionary War, but I have some "proving" to do
I would be glad to chat further and see if we match up.....
