Hello Warren,

If you have not already done so, take a look at www,opcdorset.com
Lots of Parish Records, census and general information have been transcribed for various villages throughout the County, the website now indicates 1.1 million records transcribed at 19th July.

Regards, Eileen OPC For Mappowder but living in Kent.

Helloooo...

I'm a Dare with links to Dorset but only back as far as William c.1810. I have lots of information on his son Henry James, b.1836 in Lyme Regis and latterly of Bridport. Oral family tradition links me to Ananias and Virgina but I have no firm facts. I'm looking for any guidance on where to go and what to look for to try and plough through the years back from 1837/1810...Can anyone help?

Many thanks in anticipation,

Warren Dare, Kent, UK

I am looking for all descendants of William Dare, who owned property on the North side of Coomb Street, Lyme Regis, next to George Wakely in 1265,
William Dare, vicar of St. Michael's Church in Lyme Regis in 1329, and a Robert Dare who was elected mayor of Lyme Regis in 1439. For more of my Dare Family Timeline in Lyme Regis, see http://www.genealogywise.com/group/Dare_Family/forum/topics/lyme-regis-england-dare

Thanks!

I am researching Croad in Sydling St. Nicholas and Tizzard in Frampton as well as Gibbons (also Frampton), Courtney (Minterne Magna) as well as Danniells, Cornick, Raggs and Harris (mostly in Melcombe Regis). I'm especially interested in Croad and if anyone thinks they might be connected with any of the names above, I'd love to exchange information.

Lindsey, have a look at the Dorset Online Parish Clerk site, there are loads of SNOWs, HARDIMANs, and one MAKREL in and before the time frame you need. go to http://www.opcdorset.com/ not the other one with a hyphen, search name of choice and a large list comes up except for MAKREL with one entry. Good hunting. rita

Looking for information on Makrel/Hardiman/Snow (1790 and earlier) information in and around the villages in East Dorset and possibly Wimborne Minster also. Some of the families lived in Sixpenny Handley. I have been advised that parish records do not exist prior to mid 18C due to the great fire in Blandford Forum but would have thought that Bishop's transcripts should exist and would be glad of advice to find them if they do exist.

Was very glad to see the newly adopted Dorset flag used on this site!! (I live in Dorset but that is coincidence. I have lived here for almost 24 years but only discovered my Dorset ancestry about 3 years ago.)
