Elliott's of Devon, UK

I am interested in Samuel Elliott who migrated to New Zealand. Some of the family, including George Elliott, Samuel's son then went to Bendigo in South Australia at the time of the gold rush there. Samuel had been offered a job as the colony's surveyor by Captain William Hobson who was married to a relation of Samuel. Samuel came to NZ on the ship Winchester. But in the meantime Captain Hobson died and the new governor, Fitzroy appointed Felton Matthew as the surveyor and did not want Samuel. Samuel was related to the Rendel family and also the Strachey family.
