sea faring Elliott of New York

Looking for a family of Elliott in New York who had a shipping business in the 1700s.

There would have been a daughter, Sophia, who married David Brand (1778 - 1854) of upstate New York (mainly Erie and Schoharie counties).  Two of the children were David and DeWitt Clinton (b 1824 in Erie).   DeWitt married Lovisa Ranney of New York (from a long line of Ranney going back to New Hampshire and Massachusetts).

An old Brand family history says that Sophia's father was a sea captain and owned "sailing vessels on the high seas".
