I am a descendant of John Evans and Ann Birney, who lived in NY in the 1770s and 1780s and then lived the rest of their lives in the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania. They had 14 children.
I am trying to confirm that my ancestor Rebecca Evans belongs to this family. Same birthdate - but that's not enough proof. Census said she was born in PA. That's not really proof either. Anyway, all I've found is that my ggg grandfather David Carr m. Rebecca Evans abt 1814, in NY or NJ. Probably NJ. They probably lived on Samuel Carr's farm in Wantage, Sussex Co, NJ (Samuel's family lived there 1803 - 1815) and then they all moved to Wayne Co (then Ontario Co) NY in 1815. My gg grandfather was their first born (I think) son b. 1815 in NJ. David and Rebecca had 14 children, about 1/2 survived. They moved to MI in 1840's where they died and are buried. Rebecca died in 1867 (widowed in 1860).
I found a Samuel Carr in Orange Co, NY in the 1800 census and the age is about right. Before that I don't know. Those darn missing NJ censuses. More info about Rebecca may help me pin down David's parents, Samuel and Mary (Post) - they're my biggest brick wall.
What do you think? Is my Rebecca the daughter of John and Ann? I've seen the Millard info on rootsweb and the marriage info on John and Ann on ancestry.com. That's all I've found. How about you? I'd appreciate hearing from you and am willing to share whatever info I have if you think we're "related" and you're interested. Thanks, Paula
I e-mailed another Evans family genealogist and he would like to know what source or sources do you have regarding your Rebecca Evans Carr's birth date? He believes this will be really helpful in solving this.
I would appreciate any help I can get. My only "source" is FamilySearch/LDS which I realize is a clue vs a source. Louis Ogden led me to baptism records at Clove Dutch Reformed Church in Wantage, Sussex, NJ (NYGBS 2006) which listed a "John Evins and Anna Barney "name of child and date of birth not entered in the original" (footnote) under baptisms 1794 May 18". This may be my Rebecca and it puts the Evans in Wantage where the Carrs were in early 1800s. That's the best I can do. Living in MI is a definite disadvantage. Paula
I am related to John Evans and Ann Birney. I haven't been able to go back any further than John Evans though. Do you have any information earlier than John?
