History of Cape Cod
Cape Cod was among the first places settled by the English in North America. Aside from Barnstable (1639), Sandwich (1637) and Yarmouth (1639), the Cape's fifteen towns developed slowly. It is in these fifteen towns on this small peninsula that many of the United States early colonial families settled, worked, and eventually (in some cases) spread out to other colonies.

Carole, thank you very much. You have been a lot of help. I don't think I told you but I tried to call a Doane in Hanover, MA last night. He wasn't Wilton's grandson. His family is from Maine. We got talking a bit and we are very distant cousins. I am going to give him another holler. He is now working on his lineage and just a little older than myself. It would be nice to see how we meet on the tree. I have a name and number from Lisa and going to call today and see if I have any luck with that also. Glad you found lots of family. Thanks again.

@Spirit - You might try posting your "living Doane" question to the Plymouth Co, MA, message boards. I once found a whole string of cousins by posting to the county board where somebody knew one of them and passed my contact information on to them. I am looking for a living person. Here is the information:
Wilton Doane d 16 Dec 1984 Hanson, Plymouth Co, MA
Married Arilla M Caines d Feb 1994 Hanson, Plymouth Co, MA
Had at least one living son who should still be living, name unknown, b Hanson, MA.
He married a Seely and had one child, name unknown.
I would like to find the living. Wilton is my maternal grandmother's brother. For some reason he was never around his mother or sister and his name was never mentioned. Another skeleton is the closet. I would like to find out why this is in the closet and see if my family would like to meet me online or in person.

Found the abbreviation key for the Mass VR to 1850 (the "Tan" books)
specifically this volume: "Vital Records of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts to the Year 1850"
C.R.1. - church record, from copies of the records of the First Church of East Bridge-water, the original records having disappeared. See P.R.5.
P.R.1. - private record, from a Harris family Bible, now in the possession of Mrs. Fred Aldridge of Bridgewater

The "C.R.I." in the post with births should be "C.R.1." My poor eyes.
