There is an Online Video for Version 2009 here:

If you use this link, please provide some detailed feedback to Family Tree Maker 2009. You will probably not receive feedback from them, but the developers do read the feedback.

Earlier Version of Family Tree Maker

There are a number of User to User Message Boards. This first link will take you to a list of Family Tree Maker GenForums based on the problem that you are trying to resolve:

When posting a message on any of these message boards, it is MOST HELPFUL to mention the Version of Windows that you are using, and the Version of Famliy Tree Maker that you are uisng. You can determine that by clicking on Help, then About Family Tree Maker. That will help the Users help you.

It is also helpful to be specific as to what the issue is or the question is, based on what you see in Family Tree Maker. If there is an Error Message, please provide the specific Error Message. What you see and what you expect to see is also helpful.

Joel -- YOur comment from FTM TechSuppot is true. But, it's a GEDCOM file that you can do now. The difference is that with Family Tree Maker 2009 (and 2010) you can and will be able to upload MORE then a GEDCOM file from with the Family Tree Maker program, including Images. Please see the blog that is referred to on the Group Page.

Thank you -- Russ

I was told the following by FTM tech support:

----------------
It is possible to upload the .FTW file, the Family Tree Maker working file, directly to Ancestry.com. This can be done with a free guest account. A paid membership is only required if you would like to view records contained in the collections at ancestry. The file size limitation is 75MB. The steps on how to do this are as follows:

- From the homepage of Ancestry, put your cursor on the Family Trees tab in the Ancestry navigation bar, but do not click.
- With your cursor over the Family Trees button a dropdown menu will appear listing any existing trees. Click on the option at the bottom of the list to Upload a GEDCOM.
- When the Upload a Family Tree page appears, use the Choose file field to find your FTW file on your computer.
- Type in the Tree Name box how you want the tree to be called on Ancestry.
By default all trees are listed as public trees. This allows all members to see the deceased individuals of the tree. Uncheck this box to make your tree private if needed.
- Enter a Description if needed on the details of the tree.
- Carefully review the Submission Agreement and mark the box next to I accept the Submission Agreement.
- Click Upload. The file will be uploaded to Ancestry and notify you when it is complete.
- Your family tree will now be available in the Family Trees section of your account.
----------------

Hope that helps!

Joel - Yes and No. There is FREE information at Ancestry.com. With Version 2009, there is an advantage to have a Subscription to Ancestry.com. If you purchase the Family Tree Maker program (version 2209), there are several levels of Subscriptions that may be included. Reading the fine print on the various Bundles will help you determine what subscriptions are included - Hope that helps. 00 Russ

If you have Family Tree Maker, is there still a cost to access the databases on Ancestry.com?

Georgie - I am sorry, I didn't see the "i". My mistake.

Thanks Russ, but my name if Georgie I usually spell it Georgy because very few people see the "i"

George,

I have put a number of online resources on where you can get help for Family Tree Maker.

Like previous versions of Family Tree Maker, there is a PDF file on the Installation CD. There is also an online Tutorial.

You will also see, about, that I have a Family Tree Maker User Blog that has more information.

Lots of resources AND the Help files, in the program are good.

Your question about going from 2006 to 2009, 2009 will locate and open, creating a New Family File.

Hope that helps,

Russ

Hi, as a new member of the site as well as the group, I hope I do not over step the appropriate content of comments, but after using FTM 2005 for a long time - I must say that FTM 09 is the worst mess I have seen in years. I have been advised that there is no manual that is available for download and none came with the software.
Every question I have asked has been responded with by telling me I can't purchase a manual and that the tech support is available. However the messages I have sent to the tech support are answered that I do not have an account and must register. I have been Georgietree and have had an account with Ancestry.com for at least 10 years now. Anyone know of a way to get pass or around this so I can learn how to download the 2005 file to 2009, because it didn't work correctly when I tried and I am tired of typing old inf into 2009, Thanks

Thanks much, Russ. I will give it a look later today!
