I have been unable to locate my GGG Grandfather's burial site. He died during the Civil War in Pine Bluff Ark, from disease. He's got to be somewhere? What do you do if you can't find a resting place for an ancestor.
I'd put him in a virtual cemetery on FindAGrave until I found his location. Have you tried searching for his name on Google Book Search and on the Internet Archive?
You know it depends on the disease, in some cases, where the disease was contagious they burnt the bodys to stop the spread of infection. Have you tried local hospitals etc for old records?
Since you know what regiment he was in, you might (if you are lucky) be able to find a history of his unit on the internet, probably in the an area about the Union Armys, or IN history areas. Try entering his Cavalry, Unit, and Regiment numbers; or in the Rockport, IN sections. Try to find out if Rockport has a historical society. Sometimes, diarys make their way to historical societies in the town, county, or state. Sometimes, Civil War Re-enacters for your area may be able to help. Good luck!
